I'm playing the violin in and for the reception of a friend's wedding, and I was wondering if it would be okay to get my hair sort of done. Not a fancy updo, but just sort of maybe a twist or light curls?

If you are appearing in public (and the wedding reception counts as appearing in public) you, as an artist, are entitled to any kind of 'look' you want. If you would like to get your hair done -- whether in a twist or light curls or a fancy updo or whatever strikes your fancy, then go for it. You won't upstage the bride, of course, but that doesn't mean you have to look like a mouse, either!
It's very sweet of you to be concerned, but I'll bet your friend would rather have you looking great on her special day than trying to fade into the woodwork. And who knows -- you might meet that special guy at the reception.

I think its a great idea for you to get your hair done. You're part of the wedding party by playing the violin. Why not look your best! In fact, you should be invited to the rehersal dinner, if everyone is really paying attention to etiquette.

If you can afford to get your hair done, I don't see anything wrong with it. I guess at some point the hairdo could become so elaborate that it would upstage the bride; that would be a big no-no. But if it's classy but doesn't call attention to itself, I think that would be exactly the kind of hairstyle that you should wear to play violin at a formal occasion.

Yes, that is a great idea! But talk to the bride to see what her hair will be like so you don't have mathing hairstyles. Losse curls work great for black hair, it makes it look very full. Good luck and practice until the last minute, you dont want to mees up the big day!

I think it is fine; however, honestly, I believe 99% of people look best with their hair in their usual hair style. They aren't fidgeting with it, and it's not sprayed stiff and looking like a helmet. Also the curls, or wisps of hair don't droop and look "funky." Just pick the right do for you.

you absolutely should get your hair done. and dress as nicely as appropriate for the occasion. the bride will probably appreciate it. you will probably be the person people see first as i assume you will be playing before the ceremony even starts. that makes you the person who sets the stage for formality or lack there of.

Sure - you might make sure they don't need your hair "just the way it is," but yeah, it's not against the law or anything. Go ahead and do it!
