That people are nicer to you because you are not as nice to them. I found that when I started taking anti-depressants I started ignoring a lot of people and they started chasing me because I acted like I didn't care because with anti-depressants make it harder to get sad. The same people that walk all over me when I'm nervous and worried act just as nervous and worried and chase me around on anti-depressants or want to be my friend. Has anyone experianced that. In retrospect it makes me feel kind of crappy that people are like that and if I was born with a disability that makes me extra nervous when I'm normal that people will be mean to me because of it. Has anyone expeianced this or something similar? I think this is one reason I took drugs and despite what they say some people are nicer to you on drugs just because they may make you feel relaxed.

Hey, that is so true!! I don´t take antidepressants, but I went through a period of my life where I had mood swings, and soemtimes I just ignored people. I realized if you are really nice to people it´s easier for them to ignore you or treat you in any kind of way. But if you are not really buying into them, or paying attention to them, or giving them energy, they try to be nice with you. It´s like they get nervous because who knows what they start thinking you´re thinking (and that´s the reason you´re ignoring them, or not being as friendly as usual).
Anyway, it´s weird but I believe it´s true.

I haven't reached the point of not caring yet. I've only been on Lamictal for 4 months now. My doctor increases the dosage slowly. But I'm still extremely nervous and paranoid around large crowds. I hope to get to the point of where you are at. I would be much happier and a lot less nervous.
My mother says maybe the others have always been nervous as well, only I never noticed because I was too busy worrying about myself. How can I argue with her? Most of the time I am focused on myself.
People do discriminate against persons with mental illnesses. I have experienced it. What I hate the most is that most people assume you are stupid. "You can read? But you're bipolar, that's impossible." They're actually shocked to see how intelligent you are. But don't let it get you down. Some things you just have to brush off your shoulders. But also stick with people who are supportive. Stay away from the toxic people.

Mitchell R, it's always been a known fact that people never want what they easily have. But when something or somebody isn't as accessible to them they go after it. It's like when a girl in school likes a guy, he just ignores her because she's there and he thinks she will always be there. But when that girl stops trying he does an about face and goes after her. I think this behavior can also be said about your problem. When you seem different people are more interested. It's sad but true. Hang in there if you have to be different than who you really are, are they worth it?

Maybe people seem nicer because they see you as more confident and want to be around you. People want what they can't have also, have you ever tried to be friends with someone and the harder you try the more they dislike you. But when you start acting like you don't care they start warming up to you.

Are you sure you are taking the right drugs in the right dose.

Antidepressants do not stop me from feeling sad. They help me from feeling overwhelmed and make it somewhat easier to deal with the crap that life sends you.
