Lightening has run in on two of our tv sets and cable. We have the cable fixed but the only tv we have is an old Quasar floor model which is almost as old as me (which is OLD). Also, I am very very electronically challenged. Thanks very much for any help.

Wellll, we tried to program a universal remote for our parents' 30 yr. old Phillips console TV. No can do, directly, that is. And, even if we could have done so, the TV itself isn't cable-ready, so they would not have been able to receive many stations, only about the original 6-7 stations.

So, as the first answerer stated above, hook up a VCR (if your VCR is an oldie, you'll only be able to receive as many channels as your VCR has) to your TV and then program the remote to the VCR code. The directions and codes are listed on a sheet or booklet that came with the remote. It's very easy to do. Then, to watch TV, you'll turn on your TV to channel 3, turn on your VCR, and you're set. We still needed the old remote to adjust the volume, however. And ya, invest in those surge protectors, though I don't know if they'll stop lightning, that's some powerful stuff! Aren't ya supposed to unplug all your stuff during lightning....I dunno... never been in lightning. Ya know, you can get a lovely new TV for under a $100......even cheaper at the Salvation Army....

If you still have the instruction booklet for your universal remote. If compatible, it should have a listing of codes for your tv. And it should also have an automatic setup, where the remote searches for the correct code.

You can choose which is easier for you.

If you do not have the instruction booklet. They should have one online.

YOUR QUESTION REALLY ISN'T VERY CLEAR. BUT IF YOUR TRYING TO PROGRAM A UNIVERSAL REMOTE TO WORK WITH YOUR TV ETC. LOOK UP THE CODES (EACH COMPONENT WILL HAVE A CODE) LISTED IN THE REMOTES MANUAL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
GET YOURSELF SURGE PROTECTORS FOR ALL ELECTRONICS TO GUARD AGAINST LIGHTNING.
