We don't know the best way to introduce it to our 3 year old male Lhasa who thinks the world revolves around him. Yes he's spoiled. He is our 2nd Lhasa and our other cockatiel died at 23 years old! Any suggestions?!?!

A while ago, I moved in with my gf who has a cat. My tiel (about 6 years old) is never in her cage. She's always on my shoulder or running around. She's a really good bird who doesn't seem to mind big animals, although she hates other birds. We kept her in the cage for the first couple of days in her new house, taking her out only when we were around to supervise. The cat, who is a cat goddess herself, sniffed at her a few times and then seemed to be rather bored at the idea. We let my bird out for good and, well, sometimes we get little jealous of their relationship.

I'd say if you get a handfed tiel it wouldn't be too bad. Lhasa's are good tempered dogs. My mom's jumped up on my bird once and, well, the bird got the better of the dog. A llhasa isn't going to hurt the bird. But a handfed one will be more socialized and'll find it easier to deal with. One's a big animal and the other one is a little one who stands on your shoulder...they don't have competeing turf, except for when the tiel wants to go peck at the carpet.

It should be fine, just make sure you hang out with the both of them a lot--talk to them and stuff. They'll become pals. Anyway it sounds like you know what you're doing.

Did you have the current Lhaso while you still had the cockatiel? If so and he is used to being around one, the transition should go pretty well, if not and he has never been around a bird, you need to go very slwoly with getting the 2 of them acquainted. I would not have them out together in the same room. Let them get acquainted thru the bird cage. The Lhaso will get used to the sight and sound of the cockatiel. Just be very careful until they become buddies from afar. Making friends for them will take time.

One trick I use to make dogs feel friendly to small animals is similar to what parents do in introducing a new baby. "Look, Spikey, I brought you a cute little bird! Look, it flaps its wings! See, I'm going to feed it! Sit very still now, I am taking it out of the cage, don't scare the cute little bird!" This way the dog gets a lot of attention for behaving appropriately with the bird, and doesn't get jealous. You still have to be careful, because even friendly play on the part of the dog can be dangerous to a small animal.

First of the chicken would not believe you. IMHO you ought to by no skill stick your hand in a cage to get a chicken out. you ought to have a dowel that you'll be able to make the chicken step up on and then presented out of the cage. it quite is his area an you want to make him your pal and by no skill his enemy. make certain out what his sought after nutrition is. Use this to attraction to the chicken to devour out of your hands. After some weeks of that you'll see a distinction. I basically feed sunflower to my cockatiels as a take care of to cause them to do what i need. It takes time and staying power to achieve a birds believe. you do not comprehend what that chicken has been through. an excellent form of birds will bypass to a guy or a woman and prefer their company. in case you want a chicken for you bypass to the puppy save and enable a cockatiel p.c.. you out. in case you may go searching on the cyber web and detect a breeder then you will detect slightly one.

You might keep them in separate cages near each other with your Lhasa's perch being a bit higher than the new bird so the other bird establishes that he is an underling and perhaps they wont fight. Watch how they interact until you can introduce them out in the open. May take time or they may become buddies. They all have their own personalities...choose one with a milder personality. Hope that helps.

Hmm, it really depends. We had a wonderful cockateil for a year who we all adored, then she got out one day and flew away. Now we have a new one who no body reallly likes. She ONLY likes my dad and when I feel bad about her being in the cage all day and decide to take her out she darn thing bites me! I would much rather spend the extra $600 and get a parrot! lol just kidding. Good luck!!
