try out for both, if you only make one then there you go, if both then you decide

Basketball and track are in the same season? If they arent you could do both. Id recommend track because you have so many open options such as throwing, long distance running, sprinting, jumping, hurdling, and the like. That way you can decide what you like to do and you can do more than one. Basketball is the same thing the whole time. Also track has more people that you'd know or be able to get to know. Another plus is that they typically dont do try outs because you can have a lot of people, so you'd be guaranteed a spot on the team.

Okay I should probably tell you to try out for both, but I won't because it will take up study time. The best way to look at it is what you want to get out of it. Do you hope to receive a scholarship someday, if that's the case do which ever one you are more suited for. Track and field has many different events that you could do and become better at. Basketball gets more recognition nationally then track. Also you might want to consider which one your more likely to make the team. Track probably has more positions that are active then basket ball. There is also the factor of what your friends are doing or what type of friends you want. Do your friends or the friends you want to make participate in track or basket ball( keeping in mind that if your making friend they will expect you to do well in that sport). So ultimately it's up to you to decide what you want to do based on what you want

Well basketball is more interaction and track is more individual focus. They both take a tremendous amount of work to do well with. Choose the one you think you have a better chance of eventually getting a scholarship at.

well that is a hard choice.. but i ask this ... why not try for both?
do both this year see which one you like the best and do just that one next year.. and as most schools basketball and track our at different times of the year leaves plenty of time for studying to get those A's... good luck to you..

Which one are you better at? Which one interests you more? Which one has the coach you like better? How do you expect to ever grow up and make your own decisons if you come to us for answers to something only you can answer?

Try out for both. Then perhaps choose the one that chooses you (it may be both or neither).
Keep trying until you find what is right for you.
Best of luck.
