I am separated from my ex-wife and children who currently live in Massachusetts. (3 hours away) My girl friend lives 3 hours away in Downstate New York. If I get two offers for job opportunities- where would you live?

You choose for the kids, and that's not always as cut and dry as it sounds. On the one hand, yeah, the kids need a parent in their lives, but on the other, do they really need you eking out a low-paying job when there's one better off somewhere else. And your ex has nothing to do with you and your job choices right now.
But something tells me you're looking way too far ahead in the future. Right now, concentrate on getting the job, then tackle that question.

Choose your children. They are your first priority and your first responsibility. You should be trying to find a way to live closer to your children anyway. They didn't ask to be here, the least you shoud do is be a responsible parent. Parenting is a verb, and it means there is work involved. If it means that you make sacrifices, then that is the way it goes. How often do you see them? Are you around when they need you?

You have to answer that. Is it your intention to be an active part of your children's lives or not? You can get a new girl friend, not new children.
