I mean, they are an atheist after all, so even if they cured a horrible disease, and helped save hundreds of thousands of lives, not counting those saved in the future after the cure was found, the doctor would go to Hell because they don't believe in God. Right? Or is there something that I'm missing?

So even if you were a nice person, just for the sake of being nice, and just to see the smile on a person's face, you'd still go to Hell, even if you didn't believe in God? That's sad. God is awfully closed minded.

This is what God thinks of our good works:
"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." (Isaiah 64:6)
The term "filthy rags" in the Hebrew has the idea of "menstrual cloths." So no, none of the atheist's good works (nor anyone else's for that matter) get them into heaven.
And why would an atheist want to join their enemy? Why seek a place in a place they don't believe in?
As others have already mentioned, it is in Christ alone that we recieve salvation from death and hell. As it is written: "There is no salvation by anyone else, for there is no other name [Jesus] under heaven given among people by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

The only way to Heaven is to accept Jesus Christ in your heart as your Lord and Saviour. Yeah someone could come up with a cure for cancer...and it may save someones life here on Earth. But you're missing something ... what matters is that we get saved by the Lord, so that we can have ETERNAL life in Heaven.

You count on that AIDS and cancer are punishments for sin. However Christian have ALREADY BEEN FORGIVEN for his or her sins by way of JEsus' demise on the move. As a result, Christians should now not get punished for sins. Yet hundreds of thousands of Christians get AIDS and melanoma. AIDS and melanoma have got to now not be punishments for sin, and have got to hence be the influence of evil on this planet. As a consequence, any atheist who remedies AIDS or cancer must be a device by way of which GOD does His work. Being simply a software, there are nonetheless underneath the identical ideas as any one else: think in Jesus, or go to Hell. Their presence in Hell has NOTHING to do with WHAT THEY DO, and everything to do what WHAT THEY think.

Jesus is the only way to be saved. Acts of love are expected of Christians, but they don't make you Christian.
Nobody can do enough good to pay for their own sin. The punishment for sin is death. It's a debt you can pay yourself through eternal damnation, or you can accept the payment Jesus already made and avoid the pain.
I do believe that those (even athiests) who do good and who act in love are rewarded for it in their earthly lives. The budhists call it Karma. I call it the spiritual application of the law of enertia. What goes around comes around.
Bottom line, if you do something good for someone, good will happen to you. But, unless you devise a way to give someone eternity, you won't get eternity in return. There's only one way to do that.

As agnostic, my experience is "yes".
I am a researcher in medical filed and people like Christians don't appreciate the effort of humanity. What I experience are:
1. They don't seem to agree with us as medicine is the final solution of the disease.
2. Most of the time, they take medicine for granted. They accepted vaccinations but they refuse to believe medical treatment, they like their method "Praying" or than scientific method.
3. Sometimes, I do have such feeling for them : they are smugly ignorant and uncultured.
4. They have built to accept one dogma - bible and they refuse to accept open-minded solution.
5. Sometimes, I have to "pretend" to be emotional in order to read their mind.
6. I don't mind about going to hell, just think they are so helpless.

No, you're right---because no one gets into the throneroom to see the immortal king without being worthy.
Jesus alone was worthy--he had zero....000.000sins......
That doctor.....if he has 1 sin.......he doesn't get in to see the KING of KINGS.
However--Jesus's paradoxical death--the death of a sinless man---is the key to forgiveness for our sins. God demonstrated his justice when he sent Jesus to death. Sin must be dealt with and atoned for--we don't understand that---but thats the way it is. The payment for sin is death. But because Jesus was sinless and paid it......now God is able to forgive those who trust in Jesus.

What? I personally believe that intentions play into things.
But not to worry: atheists don't generally believe in a heaven OR a hell, so we (I am an atheist) don't really give a sh*t.
Thanks for the concern and 2 points!

#1 I don't think good deeds can get you into Heaven, but some religions do.
#2 I'm not sure atheist is someone who Doesn't believe in God, I think they are undecided.
#3 I don't think that God would lead a true unbeliever to discover the cure for cancer.
Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
