Hi!
I heard that a brainwashed person will have to see something that will open their eyes... usually this something is traumatic and is related to the situation for which they have been brainwashed.
For example... Cults... Your daughter has been brainwashed into thinking that she should give up all her money and live in a compound for the sake of her new found religion. Her cult leader is the most devout man she has ever known and is a sterling example of everything she wants to be. Then one day, she walks into his office and sees the cult leader having sex with a crying ten year old girl. This sight shatters her illusions of him and she "wakes up"... her eyes are now open to the truth.
Otherwise... to un-brainwash someone takes months of counseling. It is called deprogramming. And this usually involves you kidnapping the person and/or practically forcing them (physically) to endure the counseling.
Sorry... this is all I have... I could probably offer better advice if I knew something more about the situation the brainwashed person was in...
Well... here is one last thing. The best way to help someone is to educate yourself on their condition. Wikipedia has an article on brainwashing and the history of it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_washing
And here is an article on "Deprogramming" a brainwashed person and "Exit Counseling"...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deprogramming

:)
Good Luck...

First, removing them from the peer group or community from which they got their ideas, and having them spend more time in a new sphere of influence. That's how brainwashing works in the first place, and it works in reverse.
Have others around who agree with you and not the brainwashed person.
Second, lots of talking- on both sides. Let the person explain their beliefs. Above all, encourage critical enquiry, and engage in it yourself. this may require something of an "open mind" to the brainwashed person's world view, but that's why it has to be a group effort, not just you, otherwise you might get sucked in too. When you find a foothold, a weak point in their belief system, work it. Assert your own beliefs. Don't assume that they are known or understood. Pose questions that you think will indirectly lead to questioning of the belief system. The tempting approach is to be too confrontational, but this won't work. If you have time, do it in a friendly fashion. People will see reason if you treat them with respect and if you are patient.

sorry I left my "unbrainwash" book at home....
but there are quite a few people out there that would say...."we dont unbrainwash them, we prevent brainwashing from occuring"! Wish I knew who said it first...but I dont.

It is called "deprogramming." If I knew how I would be rich and famous. I know better educated, more fortunate people than I that are brainwash...they drink the Kool aid every morning for breakfast watching the television. If you ever run into a person who is able to "think" stick with them....
