there are so many different sects of christianity/catholicism that even they are split in the ideas of what is "against god". As for Catholics in general they are very strict as to who they will marry anyway, gay community aside. Try being divorced and remarrying in a catholic church and see what I mean, lol!
A lot of religions still stick predominantly with the old testament, so that doesn't really help the cause any. Odds are that if the govt. ever allows the marriage to happen then down the line the churches will also. There have been several "taboo" practices that the churches have now said they are alright.
It all just boils down to somebody assuming they know what god wants better than he does.
All Christianity has a larger amount of homosexual followers than it would like to admit. They'll come around eventually.

Personally, it's "Hate the sin, love the sinner". I don't condone the hatred towards a person because of their life style, at the same time I can't condone the lifestyle choice of homosexuality.
I will never support same sex marriages just because it placates a certain segment of the population (homosexuals and liberals).
Using your platitude, some child molesters should not be prosecuted, because its a choice made by both partners (while some would argue the child doesn't understand all the implications, it's still a choice made) You probably wouldn't extend your sympathy to rapists, but there are some who do, arguing the rapist is just "acting out" and should not be held accountable for his actions.
You see, once you accept one breech of normal behavior, the next in line don't seem so bad.

True Christians do not hate. Jesus loved the sinners, but hated the sins they were committing. Christians should try to be like Him, and we should also take that attitude.
The Bible does say that homosexuality is a sin. But so is lying, stealing, having sexual relations with someone you're not married to, or thinking about doing any of those things. There's no difference....sin is sin. BUT when someone chooses to live an immoral lifestyle permanently (and marrying someone of the same sex is pretty much permanent) then that means they're not repenting of their sin, and that's the only thing that separates homosexuality from any of the sins that ALL of us commit. The key here is that homosexuals are sinners, just like all the rest of us. But they don't choose to turn their backs on that lifestyle of sin, and that's the difference.

In following with God's word, it is never stated that anyone is to hate anyone. It is outlined that we should hate a sin and teach and admonish when possible, but that we should still love the people even our enemies. The trouble with todays society and so called Christians is that they take things out of context to serve their own needs and personal vendettas. There are too many -ist out there who are passionantly fighting for what they believe in and trying to force their views down other's throats. If they were to step back and approach the problem in a different manner, their views might be better taken by their opposition.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.
The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
With love in Christ.

I am Catholic and I do not hate anyone who is homosexual. I do not approve of homosexuality on moral grounds but there is a big difference and it has been explained here on other questions by many others. You miss the point.
Love the sinner, hate the sin.
People are not their actions and you can love people but not the actions.

Christians don't hate homosexuals. They hate sin. They hate the behavior that will result in these people's eternal damnation.
If you see a stranger's house on fire, wouldn't you tell him about it? Would you stop trying to tell him just because he denied the fact?
In the same way, we will not stop saying that homosexuality is an abomination to God. People who have sex with the same gender are headed to hell as surely as the guy that cheats on his wife or the doctor who performs abortions. All these people must repent if they want God's mercy.
If they repent, and acknowledge that Jesus is the son of God, they WILL receive God's mercy. It's as simple as that.

I don't hate gays at all but to allow them to marry would be against the Bible. I don't hate prostitutes and even feel it should be legal but I wouldn't allow one to come into my church and sell her wares. yes she could come in , but not to do business. You may say how does that compare.
Sin is sin is sin is sin. We are to love the sinners and hate the sin.
God is the same Yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Homosexuality is a sin before God, the same as adultery . lying etc,
Because we don't let foul mouthed stand up comics to speak in our churches doesn't mean we hate them.
To allow such things would be changing our religion and turning it over to sin.
Homosexuals want us to change the Bible. personally I don't care if they marry each other , but make it a civil ceremony , not in church....

As a Catholic I do not hate the "homos" (your words, not mine), nor do I judge them or anyone else. I judge actions, and the Church is against the homosexual lifestyle (sex without marriage and others).
I believe that homosexuals are called to be chaste and follow their faith. I do NOT think they all go to hell, nor does the Catholic Church think that.
We are all called to serve God, and homosexuals are called to do so in a chaste, celibate life.
I would hope that you will reconsider the respect you "lost" for the Catholic Church by reading what the Church states in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For your reference, I have included them here.
If you have more questions, please feel free to address them to me via my profile, or contact a parish priest.
Peace be with you.

The Catholics are in the hands of a just God as everyone else is. God is their judge. God loves all mankind. Had he not, he would have not sent his only begotten Son to die (sinless) for the sins of the whole world. Please read and pray for the homosexual. His sin will be judged as well as the liars and adulterers.
