We must learn all our lessons before we may rise to the higher spiritual realm. ; )
But you already knew that...

I think that is why we have not had another World War.
Hopefully, man has learned that the so called peace of WWI was not a "real" peace. But this is only one example of how history should show us what "works" and what does not.
History should be a lesson, much like our individual life's lessons, that show us the means to better methods to get where we want to be as people and as individuals.
History should bring understanding!

In some techniques, definite. i do no longer think of you may somewhat commit the comparable errors, although if, on condition that technologies (rather at present) variations so right this moment, alongside with ideologies and (some) perspectives. relax certain that the on an analogous time as particular features will proceed to be in activities alongside with revolutions or wars, distinctive errors will easily be made. that is not significant how lots one examine history, through fact we can smack suited right into a "rock or annoying place" project ultimately. that's a human project.

It is true.
As a history major, you couldn't believe how these modern day events have been almost exact replications of what happened in history! If only more people would learn their history (their REAL history, not crappy high school textbooks that tell you America won the Vietnam war), then perhaps we would not have the problems we have now. In my opinion, every politician should be educated in history.
Look at the Iraq war. Can one not draw parallels from what happened in Vietnam?

It's true - if we don't learn from the past we do repeat the same mistakes. And we'll continue - some of the things in the past that people thought would never happen again will do just that.

Nope, not true.
Always it is, whatever appears as a repetition to you, has actually happened once.
I could easily say that because of what we learned in Vietnam, is WHY we went to war with Iraq...but not Korea...yet?
History only records the results of actions taken...It does not record the results of actions NOT taken. So, what we have learned from the past is biased. We will not learn from actions that are never taken.

I got an A in History of Civ 2 in college and showed up only the first day. I was being quiet but was paying attention to my laptop, not my professor, so he stopped and asked me to explain to the class why we study history.
Deeply annoyed, I stood and said, "The answer you are looking for is that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. In my study of history, however, I have learned that those who study history and those who do not have one thing in common."
I paused, and the professor grinned. "Mr ------, enlighten the class with this insight, if you would."
I took a deep breath and continued, "In my study I have learned that those who study history and those who do not have one thing in common -- they are doomed to repeat it anyways. I for one choose ignorance so that I may at least PRETEND to be making new mistakes."
"Mr -----, you are dismissed from my class."
"Do I get my A?"
"Yeah, come pick up the letter next class session."
Next class, I walked in, got my letter stating I was getting an A, and walked back out.
What the rest of the class didn't know, me and the professor had been having lunch for rather a long time, along with my History of Civ 1 professor. In short, he knew I knew my history. *g*

As Pete Townsend sang, " We won't get fooled again."
So here we are, those that are ignorant of history being led to the slaughter, those that know history are either ducking and running or trying to repeat the worst of it.
Wouldn't it be a waste to have to repeat the mistakes of this life in the next one?
