It means I've been saved from eternal death and detachment from God by "dying to self" and living anew through Jesus Christ.
Ro 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Ro 10:10
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Ro 10:11
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Ro 10:12
¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Ro 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

First, is the internal witness of the Holy Spirit. Second, if a person claims to be a Christian, he'd better show some outward signs. Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, self control, humility. If I see a Christian doing things that are considered contrary to the scriptures, then I have reason to doubt the genuineness of their conversion. God holds high standards for me and all who name the name of Jesus, and He expects the best from me. I am not perfect, but I live as obedient everyday. I must rely on the power He gives me through the Holy Spirit, who indwells me. (Ephesians 1:14)

Try it, and you'll KNOW why we believe it. There's no better feeling in the world than waking up in the morning and knowing that God loves you, and that you have HIM on your side to face whatever the day might bring you. You see changes in yourself. Maybe not immediately, (it does take awhile sometimes) but you will see a major change in your attitude.
For me the hardest thing has always been my temper. After a lot of praying, I can see that now I don't get mad quite as easily as I used to, and when I do get mad, there's a huge difference in how I react now. I used to throw things (not at anyone of course, just throw them), start screaming immediately, and say some pretty nasty things to whomever caused the anger. Now I still yell, but God has definitely helped me turn down the volume on my tantrums. : ) I make a conscious effort not to say hurtful things to anyone, I don't throw, and my yelling is mostly just loud talking now. There are other things too, but that's been the most noticeable change He's made in me.

Why do you feel that you have to validate your Christianity? If you confess your sins, God is faithful and will forgive you of your sins. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Christianity is a relationship with God. How do you feel? If you believe you are born again, the bible says "old things are past away, behold all things become new".
You should feel differently. You should have questions.

I take it you do not comprehend basically what a *Christian* is , alongside with most of the earth's inhabitants .. when you're literally not *born back* or *born from above* because the Bible says, you won't be able to and are not what that is uncomplicated to call a Christian or more desirable properly a *baby of God* ... Born from above skill to be position through the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ it quite is THE CHURCH, or to positioned yet otherwise , to be Baptized through the Spirit into the body of Christ it quite is THE CHURCH... So no, they do no longer annoy me, nor do I annoy myself .. baby of God - X atheist

What is your definition of "valid"?
I was born into the Christian family when I accepted Christ as my Savior, thus "born again". It's not a magical transformation, it takes work. Letting go of old habits that keep you from being a better person.
One thing that is magical, the JOY I carry in my heart.

New on the inside!
Spirit testifies with spirit, the carnal man cannot understand that. The flesh can't be 'born again' but the spirit can be given new life. Until God's spirit enters yours, you basically have no idea. The first step is faith and the rest follows.

The third chapter of the Gospel of John talks about being born again. If a person is truly born again their life will show it. You will know them by their fruits!

I judge myself against God's Word. I always find that I come up short. I always ask for forgiveness for my shortcomings. I continue to seek the empowering of the Holy Spirit to overcome all of my shortcomings. This same Holy Spirit has given me peace in my heart that I cannot express adequately with words, but I know it means I am forgiven.
I also ask others to judge me in my understanding of the Scripture and the fruits of my life. These help keep me accountable, and cause me to re-examine if I start to stray.
These things Jesus Himself instructed us to do, and promised us the seal of His Holy Spirit to bring His peace into our lives. He is my Lord and Savior, and intervenes on my behalf with the Father even as I type.

Only 144,000 born again Christians, the rest of us are not born again. Born again refers to being annointed by God with holy spirit after baptism. The rest of us after baptism have a hope of everlasting life on a restored paradise earth not in heaven. Those going to heaven are to serve as priests and kings because the kingdom of God is a government.
