No, as long as you don't mind showing your best friend that you hate her.
If you want to be a best friend it is in bad form to date (or anything else) her ex.

it's not wrong, but is it worth acting on?
How close are you to this girl, there is an unspoken rule about dating/making time with a friend's ex, is he worth it?
Try breaking it down into time increments, rewards/cost in 1/2 an hour, rewards/cost in a couple of months, rewards/cost in a couple years? If you care about her, value her input in your life, then it would be best to curb the desires and find another tasty treat to devour.
Life is about compromise and choice, just remember that every action/intention comes with a consequence.
Just a point to ponder, boys usually come and go (look at your past and see if that fits) "best friends" are precious, not usually disposable and usually your best shoulder when that boy breaks your heart.

Well it could be pretty painfull to your best friend if she found out. So the bigger question could be.Are you more attracted to that guy or your friendship with your friend. Cause I’ve seen a lotta cases where you might gain a boyfriend but lose a best friend. And if they didn’t exactly break up on good terms you never know if history could repeat itself and make you victim number 2.

Depends on your friend. How long did they date? If she says he's off limits then you better question how much you like him and if it's worth ruining your friendship over. A lot of girls are drama queens and will turn into your worst enemy if you hurt her like that.

how old are you?? if you are under 14 then your best friend probably doesn't really care (and if you are under 14 you should not be doing things like that)

No, I don't think so it is very nice of you to care that much. I think you should. Just out of respect tell your friend.

You say it's her ex. So what's the problem? Go for it. Life's too short to waste.
