All pilots, male and female, are subjected to the same rigorous tests and examinations. There is no fundamental difference.

However, it could be argued that female pilots may be slightly better, because they need to be outstanding to be successful in what is still very much a male environment.

No, they don't "have to be much better tghan men".

Both sexes need the same rigorous training, and need to pass the same tests, to sit in the left-front seat of an airliner.
(If the plane is hangared at the time, you need less training.)

I only had a female airline pilot once. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference if she wasn't standing by the door as you borded the airplane. For awhile I had a female flight instructor (I just received my private pilots license). She was not very cool about a situation that arose with air traffic control during an IFR flight. In fact, she made me find a different instructor. I don't think it had anything to do with her being a woman, it was just her personality. Her personality made me very uncomfortable that day.

I am in the Air Force and fly for a living, all the women pilots I have flown with have been of the utmost professional and quite competent. It has nothing to do with gender.

If a women has the skills and studies just
as a male pilot she is in the same rank.
I'm sure it is about the ability to do your
best job.

I'll second B R's post, gender makes no difference.

I've flown with many female pilots who were fully competent, professional and pleasant to work with.

The space shuttle pilot with the most 'consistently accurate' landings is a woman.

Never tell my wife that... I'll never hear the end of it.

I'm worried about them, about as much as I worry if the passenger next to me on the plane has a beard or brown skin and speaks in a language I'm unable to understand.

Zilch.
I'm not going to project my own inadequacies onto others.
