i love to eat spicy foods, i.e. anything with chili powder, crushed red pepper flakes, hot salsa, jalepenos, etc. mexican and cajun foods are my favorite. i even like spicy/garlicky spaghetti sauce(crushed red pepper flakes and about 3 tablespoons of garlic powder, yum!).
however, my dad keeps telling me that it isn't good for me, and eventually after eating all of these spicy foods i will ruin my stomach lining and develop heartburn. i am almost 21, married, and have a toddler(who eats much milder versions of my food)...so i can ultimately make my own decision on this.
however, is there any medical evidence suggesting long term consumption of spicy foods is bad for you? i really didn't think there was, but please correct me if i am wrong. thank you. :-)

ok, yeah i will admit it keeps me regular, as does my morning coffee. but that's better than constipation right? lol. seriously, my bowel movements have never been of much concern to me. ;-)

I eat a lot of spicy and greasy food, too. But I have to take antacids about twice a month, especially for the greasy stuff. I would say either limit how much you eat, or carry a bottle of Ranitidine (a generic antacid you can buy at Sams Club). It's not a major inconvenience for me--I just have to take a few pills every now and then--mostly when I eat sausage. Oh by the way I'm 21, too.

Yes. You may eat spicy food all the time if you wish. Contrary to some opinions, capsaicin, the hot part of most spicy foods, does not cause ulcers or other stomach conditions. It will, however, irritate a stomach lining already damaged by ulcers or other problems. Exercize and keep stress to a minimum and you'll be enjoying the burn for a long time.

I eat spicy food all the time. My late mum's primitive medical cure to counteract the stomach is drinking ginger water. Slice old ginger and boil it in water. save the water and take a glass in the morning. Go ahead all day and fill in the spicy food. The ginger ale will help clean the system. I take it all the time and I had not got a stomach ache at all since I started. Try it

If your body can handle it with no problem, indulge to your heart's content. there are several countries and ethnicities which eat spicy foods on a daily basis such as Asian Indians and Thai people. Spicey food has actually been shown to be beneficial in cleaning out the body and speeding up metabolism. Just be careful if you are prone to ulcers which some people are more sensitive to.

I am also addicted to spicy food. I asked my Doctor one time, if it could cause ulcers, and he said no. Spicy foods help kill off the bad bacteria in our systems. The hotter the better!

No! You are doing an awesome thing, I think. You're killing disease and other gross stuff - both in your mouth and in your stomach. Garlic and peppers are 2 of the very most healthy things for you. If you don't believe me, look at a nutrition book a t the library.
