Hi, Im a student in the field of cosmetology,
Nothing can really make your hair grow longer. Ive looked. But there are things you can do to help it.
One thing is that if you straighten or use irons on your hair, like myself, deep condition your hair ALOT! I do it two to three times a week! Even if you dont have a deep conditioner you can use regular conditioner on your hair for an hour or more, this also works nicely. My hair became really strong after this.
Vitamins help too! Take a multivitamin and a vitamin B-complex.
Do not color your hair alot! It weakens your hair causing it to snap off. If you do need to though, dont forget to condition, condition, condition!!! Dont forget bleaching! That is one of the worste things you could do!!
Cutting your hair doesnt make it grow faster!!! All that does is remove the split ends.
Massage your scalp regularly, this helps with growth!! It helps circulate blood flow in the scalp, with premotes hair growth.
Hope this information was helpful :)

I once took the supplements Viviscal and Hairtopia (you can get them at hairboutique.com) after I had a bad chemical processing, I really do think they made my hair grow faster. If you didn't want to take something special I would just say to take a vitamin and mineral supplement daily. And massaging your scalp for several minutes a day will help to increase the blood flow which is important for the hair to grow.

Your best bet is to alter your diet somehow. I've heard that consuming lots of Jello somehow "feeds" your hair and fingernails, causing them to grow stronger and faster. It can't hurt to try it. If sugar is a problem, you can always get the sugar free Jello, or try the drinkable Knox Gelatin. I think it is the collagen content in the gelatin that does the trick.
Make sure you aren't stressing your body in any strange ways, either with drugs or harmful chemicals (exposure). The first things to show such harm will be your hair and fingernails. They are the quickest to heal, too.
Good luck!

Here's what you gotta do:
1. Get a vitamin E capsule (most of them comes in gel capsule form that has a liquid inside. Any brand will do.)
2. Get a needle and pop the capsule.
3. Now get your shampoo bottle and put the liquid vitamin E inside the bottle.
4. Mix the bottle.
5. Use your shampoo.
You'll notice that your hair will grow faster compared before. Trust me, this works. :) I also do this myself. :)
If you have virgin coconut oil at home, you can use this as well. Put it on hair and leave it for at least 30 minutes (You can do this at least 3x a day). Then rinse it off using your shampoo. The VCO can act as your hair lengthener and as your conditioner. :) Goodluck! :) (Refer to my avatar to see how well VCO/Vitamin E works =P)

The best thing I found for myself is to take a good multivitamin that included extra vitamins for hair and nails. Some interesting facts about hair...
For us sistas:
Most black women grease their scalps. Did you know that the grease on the scalp if applied to heavy will stunt hair growth because the scalp can't breath.
I was told when I was younger to wash my hair every two weeks. Did you know because you sweat and your scalp drops dead skin cells just like the rest of your body you can wash your hair up to twice a week without over drying if you use a good conditioner?
More cool facts:
Average number of hairs on the head: 100,000
Red hair: 90,000
Black hair: 110,000
Blond hair: 140,000
Maximum length of hair: 70 to 90 cm
Annual growth: 12 cm
Female hair grows more slowly than male hair (wouldn’t you just know it)
Male hair is more dense than female hair (ditto)
Lifespan of hair: 2 to 7 years
Combing is less detrimental than brushing
Frequent washing does not increase loss of hair
Hair grows faster in warm weather
Elderly people have slower hair growth and diminished hair density
Cutting hair does not influence its growth
Spliced ends can not be repaired and need to be cut
Wet hair should not be rubbed since hair is very sensitive
Good luck girl, hope you can't get a jump start on getting your hair to grow! Check out this link: http://www.societyhilldermatology.com/feat_unique.htm

Technically, how fast your hair grows is determined by genetics. No product can make your hair grow any faster, they can't change your genetics. I would find a good shampoo for African-American hair that will decrease breakage.

well, I am not african american, but I have heard many different remedies for hair growth.
prenatal pills lead to strong lenghty nails and hair. (can be bought over the counter at any store)
coconut milk supports the hair and encourages hair growth.
castor oil as hair oil helps the growth of the hair.
soy bean oil strenghtens the hair.
Vitamins B, C, F, zinc, iron, copper and protein are essential
Do not use harsh chemicals on your hair.
Stay away from hearing irons and blow dryers.
