I wish that I could tell you; what we see in Y!A is a microcasm of society at large - albeit likely a bit skewed based on those who choose to participate. Being familiar with your posts here - having read many of your answers to mine and others' questions - I would certainly say that you are an intelligent and understanding individual. You have your views, as do each of us, and while we may have different views, I have seen you be understanding and one who truly seeks to inform and discuss topics raised here.
As for other people who are hateful and hostile - I think that it is a powertrip, a means of believing that one has some power that is missing in the "real" world/"real" life. Sometimes I don't know whether to take it seriously or not; sometimes I shrug it off, but othertimes I am deeply disturbed by such behavior. The only thing that I know that I have any control over is how I respond, and sometimes I give up that control (as is reflected in some of my responses).
But I would encourage you to continue on doing what you are doing. It makes a difference.
Peace.

Haven't you ever heard of 'never talk about religion, sex, and politics' because these are topics where there are extremely strong opinions and you just won't be able to change their minds, just as they wouldn't be able to change yours. Sometimes you hit a nerve on people for whatever reason and they take it out on someone like you. If you keep on asking those kind of questions and do not like the answers, perhaps asking questions on different topics might be wise. But if you want to try and figure them out, by all means, write more questions such as this one. Truth be told, you will never know what goes on in their minds and just leave it at that. Don't try to decipher them or try to change them some people just can't be and it's not worth losing any time over them.

We all who ask questions here run into some folks that arn`t exactly nice and some are down right ignorant. But on the whole most of us try not to offend anyone and answer questions to the best of our abilities.

I admit to sometimes being harsh, but never hateful. There are "believers" (and I use the term loosely) who have lambasted me as well as non-believers. But, I have also had some great exchanges with the latter.
Truth be told, if you have been reading your Bible, you should have seen the verses.
"In this world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world."
"And why marvel that his ministers appear as ministers of light? he is the angel of light"
They crucified Jesus, and I think we need to remember that we "have not yet resisted sin to the shedding of blood".

First, I am a believer, second, I have examined your questions and found nothing that should provoke a hostile response. You must remember, that is all they have. They can use profanity, threaten, question your sanity or intelligence, but then they have nothing left. The evidence all around them points to God, and they can't stand it.
Remember these verses:
Joh 15:18 If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it has hated you.
Joh 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.
They hate God and Jesus, and take it out on us. Their time will come.

Good questions. I believe the following is an appropriate scriputural answer to your questions. Romans 1:18-32
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be knkown about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
For although they knew God they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they bcame fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful deires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised. Amen
Further more, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

I don't know why people behave in this manner. And no, they are not going to convert anyone by behaving this way. I believe this is a forum where we should be able to express our beliefs freely without hostility and intolerance. Unfortunately not everybody feels that way.

I am sorry this has happened to you. Hateful, hostile people should be banned from this place. Many are trying to relieve their anger at the world or at the people they know, but it is wrong to release it on innocents. Perhaps YA will eventually be able to screen them out.
