This will take a while, but try going to a command prompt window, and from the prompt, type in: SFC /SCANNOW (and hit enter). That command activates a program called "System File Check", and the /SCANNOW tells the pc to do it now. If a file that's corrupted or missing is found, it'll tell you that. Good luck,

Look up restore points in the help screens.
They are very usefull. You can create a restore point before you install something, and then do the instll. If something goes wrong, you can restore to the restore point.
