I guess we'll never know, perhaps they get so busy with the trees, they can't see the forest.

I agree with Keri gee's answer. But lack of appreciation of something amazing does not mean people are spoiled and selfish.
Everything has its value, and there are many factors that work upon human mind, including time and situations, which determine how they would see things around them and how they would appreciate them. And yes there are also some factors like attitude and mindset of person who admires something or hates something. So you can say that being selfish or being spoiled can be a factor behind it, but majorly I think they are not.
And even if someone cannot express their wonder or amazement at thing, doesn't mean that they really don't care. They require some proper time and situation to appreciate it.

Sometimes people are in too much of a hurry, or too distracted to stop and appreciate all the amazing things around them. We have to learn to appreciate each moment, and all the things around us, whether it's the Grand Canyon, or enjoying the flowers in our yard, or a quiet evening looking at the stars. There will always be people who don't appreciate these things, but we can't control others, we can only learn to appreciate them ourselves.

I must admit that at some times I can be spoiled and selfish and it's not right. Thank you for addressing your views though.

Selfish. Many need ego's fed and can't stand the silence it takes to enjoy and soak in God's wonderful creation.
