Yes. Remember don't ask, don't tell.
What homosexual things would be done in uniform?
You may NOT, however, engage in any political activities in a US Military uniform, regardless of the cause.
So, you may not publicly appear at a gay pride parade, or a McCain for President rally.

If you openly admit that you are gay, no you can't. If you don't say anything and do enlist, they will not harrass you about it. But even after you've enlisted and they find out that you are gay, they will kick you out. It doesn't matter if you are with your girlfriend in uniform or not, you are military 24 hours a day. Being out of uniform doesn't change anything. Last year, the military kicked out almost 600 people for being gay, even if they didn't come out, someone else just pointed fingers which started an investigation. Some of those kicked out were in security clearance MOSs too. There were 2 girls where I was stationed in SoCal. They were two of the most hard charging, motivated Marines I had ever met. They ate, slept, breathed the Marine Corps. Someone became unhappy with them and "accidentally" let it slip that they were gay. Long story short, the 2 were investigated and when asked if they were gay, they didn't deny it. Both were kicked out with dishonorable discharge which is really sad, the Marine Corps would have benefitted with them staying in. If you want to join, you have to decide how important it is to be the real you.

You have a lot of information being given here based on what people want to believe, not what the facts are. The rule is don't ask, don't tell. That means don't tell anyone. It also isn't only a matter of what you do in uniform. If you were to be seen off base and out of uniform in a compromising situation you could have problems. The only safe way to look at it is no one should be able to tell from anything you do publicly that you are a homosexual.

Lesbians are just like everyone else. You can definatly join the army, but don't do homosexual things or anything sexual for that matter while in uniform. If your off duty then go crazy!

Noname has the only CORRECT answer. Once you have joined the military you CANNOT be found to be homosexual. If you are found OR reported to be engaging in any compromising activities they will be investigated , and could lead to a dishonerable.

Many lesbians are in the military now... and do all sorts of things in their uniforms....
But our government made a silly law that says they are not allowed to be honest about it.

Sure! "Don't ask, don't tell", remember. I would think there were a lot of lesbians in the army.
Come to think of it, is it really an issue? I mean would you ask the same question if you were thinking about a job as a stock broker? "Hey, do they really have Lesbians on Wall Street?"

I'm pretty sure you can, as long you don't do homosexual things in uniform. Ask your recruiter, you don't want a dishonorable discharge on your record.

Yes, but only if she's in the closet when she joins, and she can also be kicked out if she's later discovered to be a lesbian.

Sure you can join. Right now it's "Don't ask, don't tell". There are many gay people serving honorably in the military, but they are not wearing it on the sleeve. You can be kicked out for gay conduct.
