Yes. There are some research companies that will get your wisdom teeth pullled for free if you participate in a study using an investigational pain medication. I think its called Scirex. Check for them on the internet.
If not them try a dental school in your area.

Ask if you can be sedated with Ketamine - an IV solution that means you are able to respond to questions BUT you will not recall anything.
Also, is this an Oral Surgeon or General Dentist? You should be seeing an oral surgeon.
Did they take a Panorex - (did you bite on a stick and have a machine go around your head and take a picture?)
You should be able to request a duplicate copy of this - some states allow DDS to charge for this by the way even though it is your right to have a copy of the xray and your records.
Lastly, get a second opinion. Some offices will charge twice what the average going rate is because they know they can get it. The location matters - are you in California?
I am a dental hygienist, I had all four wisdom teeth removed 8 years ago and was sedated - for $900. This was in Portland, Oregon.
$1200 for one tooth is high. Do you have the other three? They can take ALL four at once, this will save on the anesthesia charges. Also, unless you are being intubated (not sure of the spelling) you are NOT being put under general anesthesia - you are being sedated. They only do general anesthesia in a hospital or in an in office environment with a nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist. The Oral Surgeon should explain this to you.
Good luck.

Actually, that's cheap. For an impacted tooth, $650 is a bargain. The general anesthesia is expensive, could you opt for oral sedation instead? You want someone trained in administration of general anesthesia, right?

What other surgery could you get for $1200??

Unless the surgery is very complicated, light sedation with halcion and perhaps nitrous oxide might cut the cost and still be comfortable for you.

The fee for general anesthesia sounds in the ball park. NOT that I agree with it, but that's what they commonly charge. (Hey, there is a lot of liability involved...) $650 is kind of pushing the envelope for an upper wisdom tooth, but I have not seen you or your x-ray. $300 might be average for an oral surgeon to do an upper impaction, so either yours is "unfavorable" or your surgeon is on the high side.

I'm getting 4 wisdom teeth out (2 inpacted) and two extra molers out (that is 6 teeth) and being put to sleep for it and my oral surgeon quoted me $1,700. Get another opinion, that amount just to pull one tooth sounds way to much!!!

I guess it depends on where you are, in southeast mo. I will pay 1400 for all four wisdom teeth, with IV sedation...I would get another quote from someone else.

Yes, ask the dentist for the xrays and that you'de like a second opinion. (Then the new dentist won't need to charge you for a second set of xrays.)
