I remember someone growing up used to call it a cookie - I have no idea why but I have always thought that was safe word to use growing up until I was older enough to say and understand the real terms.
You could alway find a nickname that sounds similar to the real word.

Good luck!

I'd tell her the correct name. I don't know why other parents tell their kids to refer to their private areas by made up names, it makes them think that part of their body is bad. Many adults still become naively uncomfortable at the mention of those words. For the some reason our society has perpetuated the belief that its dirty to say 'vagina' or 'penis.' Its ridiculous!

try pee-pee, bottom (for butt), and boobies or top. just use something simple that dosen't make seem too shamefull and don't use something embarasing (like if she says it in front of people, you won't get embarased). I don't know about teaching her to call her privates a vagina (might be too much if she is very young), but pee-pee would still work, even though it is not the scientific or correct term.

my girls call it Peepee.. my son calls his wee wee. I know you're "supposed" to use the proper words, but i dont really find it appealing when little children are talking about vaginas and penises.. I myself, dont care for the word vagina. its just not proper dinner conversation kwim? Its technically not even the correct word for it, since a Vagina is an internal body part. My oldest daughter (6) DOES know the proper words for it.... but still says pee pee. I just prefer it that way.

Why not use the real names?
That is what they are and there is nothing to be ashamed of about it.

On a more serious note, we taught our 3 kids the correct words from the beginning so if someone tried to molest them, the kids could tell us EXACTLY what had been touched and what happened.
(I was molested as a child, so this was very important to me)

my daughter calls it her hoo hoo if most adults dont refer to it as a vagina, why would a child? she has a hiney and a hoo and mommy has boobies it works for us and i really dont see how it would lead to her as seeing it as a bad part just as referring to the stomach as a belly or the toes as piggies people try to say everything is bad anymore just think of all the names adults have for a vagina and a lot of them sound better rolling off the tongue

You could have her call it a yoni which is the south African name for it and is much nicer and sweeter then the real name that's what my daughter calls hers. also that way not to many other people know what she is talking about if she starts talking about it when you are out and about.

My son calls his Potty, pee pee

a girl I knew had her daughter call it her monkey, I wouldn't suggest that.

I suggest using call it her Potty.

I know they say have the kids use the correct term but when your kid is out in public and says potty it just seems better =)

Call it her vagina. I know its a big word and she'll probably call it gina or something like that. But just like when she says "gug" for milk and you tell her "yes this is your milk", keep using the big words. It'll pay off in the long run.

I personally would teach her the correct terminology. That way, when she does have a problem, she'll know what to call it so that there is no confusion for health care personnel.

(I don't know why the boys get such an 'easy' name for theirs and us girls have that weird sounding word! =))
