Probably because people don't know any better..... as for me I myself can't stand it when people call them Mexican Americans or African Americans or what ever....if they are first generation coming over from another country then yes they would be mexican americans or what ever the case maybe but after that first generation then they at least in my book are Amricans....regardless of there color or origins!

Even if some are lighter or darker it doesn't matter you can't be that dam specific with everybody, a Mexican is a Mexican it doesn't matter if their light or dark or blond, if their from Mexico their Mexican. If your from America your American. Daaaaaaaaam. To much political correctness bullsh*t.

Okay to start with if they are American citizens, they are not hispanic first! They are AMERICAN. If they are hispanic first, they need to go back to Mexico as they truly don't understand what it means to be AMERICAN.
