enroll in a criminal justice program at your nearest college or school and then try to get some kind of ties to an academy close by. If there is a reserve program or a jr reserve program you can get involved in (not sure how old you are) that will help you get more familiar with things too. That is what my husband did and it helped him get his foot in the door to get on our local department.
Good Luck to you I think we need all the help we can get with the way things are going in the world today!

Depending on the department, a college degree is all that matters. Some require a four year degree, others only a two year. Most don't have specific major requirements, only that you've graduated. Obviously, a criminal justice degree would help prepare you for the career, but you'll receive extensive training during your academy.

No degree needed to be a Police Officer just a desire to help other people solve their problems and the determination to sit through Police Academy. As far as how long it takes to become an Officer it varies depending on the department.

Sometimes you can get a job as a cop and they will send you to a Police Accademy. You may call one in your area to see if you can get in and how much it would cost. You don't have to have a degree in criminal law.
