She could be bored, have arthritis or have a sticker or something embedded in her paw. I hope you have check for all these things. I would wrap her paw in vet wrap and play with her so she will leave it alone.

I had the same problem. The only thing that worked was a combination of two things. The first was to spray some Bitter Apple (available at all pet stores - an all natural chewing deterrent made from, well, bitter apples) on the paws, but CHECK WITH VET FIRST!!! if her skin is really raw, broken this might not be a good idea. The second was that I got a few 1 pound bags of dried beans, and filled up a few old socks with the beans, essentially creating 1 pound bean bags. I left these around the house where they were easy to get to and whenever she went after her paws I threw a bean bag at her, stomped on the floor and yelled NO BITE!!. The combination of the noises and the bean bag were a good deterrent and after a few weeks she stopped.

she could just be licking because she wants her paw clean its really nothing to worry about, but if you do want it taken care of put a sock on her paw that she licks the most and tie a ribbon around the top of the sock loosly, make sure its not to tight. At first she'll try to lick her paw but end up licking the sock and she'll try to get the sock off, thats what the ribbon is for, eventually she'll get used to the sock being there, and the wierd feel of it and stop. if she licks it too much she could make it raw and it will get an infection. leave the sock on until you know you broke the habbit. good luck!

When a dog licks it's paw, it's because of maybe a bacteria or yeast infections. I work at a Vet. and get a skin Cytology done, not allergy testing. It takes a couple minutes and they can tell you want's causing it. They will give you pills, like prednoise or something. So it may be behavorial too, but just get a skin Cytology done.

...do you really need to break this habit? I mean, who is it hurting?? Unless she is ripping the fur on her paw out and licking until she is raw and bleeding, whats the harm in letting her lick her paw??? Most dogs do.

It's funny you may ask this question. Because our Yorkie has the same problem the vet. told us that she has Lick granulmoa. Look this up in the Internet, and it will explain everything to you.

Well, when my dog was in heat, I put diapers on her so she wouldn't bleed on everything, and to keep her from tearing off the diapers, I put VICKS vaporub on the diaper. She hated the tast, and left the diaper on.
You need to put something on her paw that tastes terrible. Have you tried hot sauce or vinegar?
