I'm glad you use the word most and not all, and thats because some are prepared to meet there maker, and the others are not.
If you live a life in accordance with God, and you feel you have lived pleasing to God, and the time of death has come, you will accept, because you know your ran the race for the prize. and you will recieve that reward in heaven, but others have not, so the fear steps in.

Because no one knows what's going to happen after you take that last breath. Those people that say stuff like "I know I'm going to Heaven" are full of it. They're just as scared because in the end, no one knows anything about what's going to happen. They're faith might carry them through life but when they're lying on that death bed the fear kicks in.

It really isn't fear of death. It's more or less fear of the unknown.

It's simply fear of the unknown. That's a very basic human fear. No one had been there and back to say what it is, and nobody ever will.

it is the fear of if it will be painful! i think it is also the fear of leaving your loved ones behind adn not knowing that heaven is really something to look forward to. alot of people fear going to hell also!!

People fear anything they aren't sure about, especially when when there is a chance it will cause pain.

it's fear of not knowing what happens after we die. and the fear of losing touch with our loved ones.
