It appears that way I've never seen so many excuses for the way the world is right now. When we've had a huge deficit,insurance has always increased,we've always had unlicensed and uninsured drivers, I don't get it. Americans have never been so pious. I've also never seen so many fine upstanding Americans in one place arguing about a subject that is ridicules.These people can not be blamed for everything wrong here.

Illegals are only one of the scapegoats many Americans like to blame for everything wrong with their country and with their lives. What all the different groups presently scapegoated in the US have in common is that they are all demonized by the majority; disenfranchised and/ or poorly represented, if at all, in our political system; and generally discriminated against by the majority and by the institutions of government, most often the judicial system. Among the the more common scapegoats are gays, illegal immigrants, and minorities.

Why do you consider them scapegoats? Many Americans and politicians bend over backwards to help them out. They're allowed to stay here even though they're illegal. They're given benefits they don't deserve. Their children are allowed to go to public schools where the American taxpayer pays for them.They get hospital care for free.
Must be nice to be a "scapegoat".
The only victims here are the American taxpayer who has to put up with all this nonsense.

I think that collectively they are a big contributer to a number of our toughest problems. Since we don't know who walking beside us is legal or not, but are very clear who in our prisons are legal or not, obviously our experience will be skewed to noticing the bad stuff. However, that really isn't our fault.
I think that sometimes they are used as scapegoats, however.

i wish i could be illegal in another country and not have to pay ANY taxes and have everything handed to me. These people go to the ER and most of the time don't pay...now who is responsible for that? Oh right, the people who are actual citizens of this country. Thats a really odd situation isn't it?
