Why do people call dark skinned americans mexicans???

Mexican is a nationality, a different culture, history, language, and everything yet i hear it everyday. People call kids mexicans who are not mexican

Some people just don't know any better. My husband has been called Mexican a couple times, too. He's 1/2 Bavarian German, & 1/2 Scots-Irish. LOL. He works outside and is always very tan. But he doesn't have anything like the features of an Hispanic. If you've seen the coloring of the Pope (who is from Bavaria in Germany) that's the kind of complexion my husband has. Our daughter looks very much like him, and she has also been called Mexican before. It seems so strange, but people really don't mean anything by it. They just don't understand that there are lots of nationalities that have darker complexions.

That is strange for people to call a dark skin person a mexican. If your dark, I would assume that the person is black person or a dark skinned Indian, I have seen that..

I have never heard of something like that....

this is very frustrating as a cuban latina, i hate it when others assume i am mexican just because i'm latin. i know this is because people are not educated and they just assume that because most latins in america are mexican, all latins in america are mexican or that because that is the only type of latin they know of, we are all mexican.

i wish everyone could just be properly educated about these things.

Because they are idiots. On some intellectual level they know it but they just don't care.

it's simple ... many people are ignorant and uneducated and assume or lump all colour races or similar colours together....they don't take the time to look at facial features or other characteristics
