In my many years of going to the beach, I'm one of the fortunates who has never been stung by a jellyfish. But the longer I go without experiencing it, the more phobic I get about coming across one in the water. Will someone describe how it feels, comparative to a bee or wasp sting (which I HAVE experienced)?

They don't sting too much... but those are the really little ones. The big ones can actually send you to the hospital... good thing you're not in Australia where some people die each year from huge jellyfish.

Both of them can be extremely painful when stung. You need to make sure that you steer clear of any of them as they will sting if they feel like they are cornered or threatened. Both of these animals tend to go in a back motion, and they don't like to be cornered. You're just lucky that the stingray didn't use the bar side on you. That could have been quite dangerous as well. Try using some baking soda in some water, and that should help to calm down the sting.

Depends on the type of jellyfish that stung you. Usually it just itches and goes away when you wash with fresh water. I am a surfer on the east coast and get stung all the time in summer and never had a problem with it besides the annoying itch.

Do this - take an industrial size rubber band. have a friend hold it across your forearm (wrist up). Pull back the rubber band as far as you can and *THWAP*!! AH! That's what it feels like. It does hurt....but not as much as a stingray...don't worry - there's millions of other things to be scared of.
