My dear Lady, I can't agree with you more! I shudder to think that this is what children and young adults consider to be decent language. Please tell me that their teachers aren't allowing them to turn in papers with this sort of drivel on it! (I thought I saw something to that sort in an answer..augh! That would drive me stark-raving bonkers!!!) You have to agree that too many of the new customer service workers (even to McDonald's) have crappy attitudes along with crappy spelling. It's a trend that should be stopped.

Because their parents did not, or would not, buy their children the "Hooked on Phonics" tapes, and it's now considered "cool" to not just SPEAK in slang, but to also WRITE in slang as well.

Plus, I have to agree with you . . . reading what some people write on here is similar to hearing fingernails on a chalkboard.

Blame it all on the mobile phone and the desire to send long detailed messages using text messaging. Less letters you use the more words you can cram into a text message. It's getting to the point where you need a decoder ring to read text messages now ;)
(remember decoder rings??) :)

I absolutely despise people who use "u" and "ur" to mean "you" and "your"!! To me, the lack of discipline at home and the high levels of political correctness that has taken over society are to blame. People have become lazier and lazier, and these days, nobody seems to care. I routinely monitor my teenage daughters' chats and emails, and we have gotten into many arguments about that. Nobody wants to put their foot down to do anything about it!!!

The internet, lazy fingers, and lazy brains... try marking homework assignments that use this form of language... from high school students!
I agree.
It's horrible!

Bad grammar and spelling is just like bad driving. The people who do it do so because they're lazy or they think it's funny.
