ok. My PE teacher told the class (after a girl wrote a few sentences about herself). Now, i really don't feel like going search the internet right now, so can someone help with the following.

Now, one of the sentences this girl wrote was 'I love to eat chinese food' We were telling her what was wrong with her paragraph about herself (YES IN PE! lol...weirdest thing to discuss....but anyways) and I mentioned that Chinese needed to be capitalized in 'chinese food' Now I wasn't feeling all to great this morning, and she wanted someone else to answer why Chinese needed to be capitalized.

No one who knew why wanted to tell her, so she made us look it up.

So my questiong to all is: Does the word Chinese need to be capitalized in the phrase 'chinese food'? And if so, please give me a reason why. Maybe even a website???

Thanks everyone!!!

Yes, because it is a proper adjective. You would capitalize the proper noun, China; therefore, Chinese would be capitalized. Think of it like this...I like the food they serve in China...I like Chinese food. You live in America and like to eat American food.

Chinese should be capitalized because it is a proper noun. Proper nouns include names, like a person's name, places, and nationalities.

"Chinese" is a proper noun and so should be capitalized.
