Wedding Flowers?

Question

Real or silk? Does it really make a difference? Should I go cheaper with silk flowers? Can you tell if the flowers aren't real in the pictures?

Real or silk? Silk.....now, you can for the cheap silk at your local dollar stores, or go to a hobby store and buy the more expensive one. My suggestion is this, buy the nicer ones for the bouquets, and where they will be seen the most. Get some of the cheaper to be your fillers. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Trees and Trims, have beautiful flowers. Walmart is even carrying some real nice one. This way you can keep them, and like I do reuse them for other projects or other weddings. I have a garden variety of different flowers.

Believe you can't tell in the pictures that they aren't real. They always stay "fresh" and you can make the arrangements ahead of schedule. We did my daughter's, wrap them in garbage bags, and the day of the wedding, we weren't driving everyone crazy. Tore open the bags, and there you go.

I have done a many of weddings, and I have done silk and fresh. As a decorator, I prefer silk, no surprises. You don't have to pray they don't go limp, open up(roses), and if they arrive in time.

I think a combination of real & silk is a good idea. I think the bouquets & boutineers should be real as well as any flowers up front. You can do the pews, windows, etc. in silk. I'd do real on the tables as well. My reasoning...the sense of smell is a great memory trigger. Everytime you and your future husband smell the type of flower used in your wedding it will trigger memories of your special day together. You can tell if they are silks in photos, but as long as they are made well it shouldn't be a downer. Should you decide to go with silks, get the good ones that look real. If you HAVE to go solely with silk (for time and money reasons) at least put some lavender or eucalyptis in with the silks so you have a signature fragrence for the day. Happy planning!

If you would like to have both what most brides are doing is having a copy of the "real" flowers created in silk so they have a keepsake piece to last a lifetime.

Just because they are silk doesn't make them cheap. There are some silk designs that are more expensive than the "real thing."

Do what makes you happy, what feels right in your heart. It's your day and you want your memories to last a lifetime.

You cannot tell the difference in photos in fact most photographers use silk flowers as their prop.

No you cannot tell a difference in pictures on whether flowers are real or fake. If you want something that your attendants can keep for a long time, then go with the silk flowers. If you want them to have something that smells nice when they are holding them and will smell nice while sitting on the tables, get real. Other than that there are no differences, except in price. Also, one other thing, if you are getting married in a church - many churches require real flowers on the altar only! This is a belief held in a lot of churches. So you would probably have to go half and half. Real flowers for the church and silk flowers for the women to carry.

Real, definitely- the scent of the roses, the lavender, the cool fresh green smell (okay, I'm a gardener, I love the smell of wet foliage). If you want to go with silk, it will probably cost more than fresh flowers to buy good-quality silk flowers, and your selection will be somewhat limited. There shouldn't be a visible difference between good-quality silk and real in photos, cheaper silk may be noticable.

I had my bouquet freeze-dried, so I'll still be able to keep it... and the other nice thing about real flowers is that you can often plant the same variety in your yard as a living reminder (rosemary, hydrangeas, pink spray roses, and lavender were all in my bouquet, and are now also growing in my garden...)

If you want real flowers but are on a budget one thing is to get a glass bowl and float a few flowers (like 3 daisies) as a table centerpiece. I am doing this for my wedding and it is a lot cheaper then buying a real flower arrangement from the florist. It still looks nice and the water gives it a different effect. Another idea could be to buy mini potted plants like African Violets and group them on the table.

If you want to preserve your bouquet you can get real flowers and then hang them upside down so they dry out.

Silk flowers look good too, but make sure you buy the nice ones at a craft store because the more expensive silk ones do look more real.

I had real flowers in the bouquets and went with silk flowers for the floral arrangements on the tables. Saved me money and looked just as good as real flowers.

I went with the real flowers, but have seen the silk one's and they looked very nice...just didn't smell good. Going by your budget should help you decide.

Well if you want to save $ go with the silk, they look nice and I really don't think anyone will be able to tell. Have a good wedding.

I think you should use silk because it would be way cheaper than using real flowers.
