Pryor would walk through Benitez the same way he did Arguello. Benitez would not have been the same afterwards.

These were two tremendous fighters and this would be an exciting bout. You have Benitez who was an excellent boxer who never seemed to be bothered by anything in the ring and always keeping his composure vs the Hawk Pryor who threw punches from any angle and who could also take a punch like he did vs Arguello. I believe this fight would be exciting with both fighters throwing a lot of leather. Benitez would outbox Pryor early on but the ever pressing forward aggressive Pryor would catch Benitez with some heavy punches and probably score a late knockdown. Benitez would fight back hard but Pryor would win a close decision in a great bout!

Benitez, what a fighter he was, he could counter off the ropes like no fighter I've ever seen before or since. In my opinion Pryor was just way too tough, he had a cast iron chin, as proof look to his fight against Alexis, Alexis hit him with everything including the kitchen sink and nothing, he just kept coming. Back in the day Pryor was begging for a fight with Sugar Ray, but ray brushed him off, because I feel that Ray knew deep down inside that the outcome wouldn't be in his favor. Benitez fought Ray and didn't look that impressive losing the fight (Benitez was married to Ray's sister at the time) I don't think Benitez would have beaten Alexis, so I really wouldn't give him a chance against "The Hawk" In my opinion Pryor would stop Benitez in less than 8. Brent, you really ask some intriguing questions and this is another one. Kudos to you.

Drugs did play a part in his demise as a fighter.
Ring Magazine's opinion is as bad as some of toughguy's and santad's because Pryor is not ranked as one of the 100 greatest punchers of all-time.

Look at the record, Benetiz fought a better overall caliber of fighter than Pryor. This fight could go either way as a split decision, it depends on whether or Pryor has that black bottle or not.

great combat. because of the fact he's seen a protecting genius, people often overlook that Benitez somewhat would not use lots foot paintings. it somewhat is what might value him in this combat. i think of of ways a Pryor-Leonard combat might have panned out. the version is that Leonard had greater hearth ability than Benitez had, incredibly previously Benitez moved to 154. i do no longer think of Benitez might have completed nicely against Pryor at a hundred and forty. the certainty that he certainly developed ability at 154 is information that he became into nonetheless arising at a hundred and forty. He became into in basic terms a boy whilst he gained the call there. he's great and extremely complicated to hit yet Pryor might have compelled him and introduced him thoroughly out of his pastime. think of of Benitez' middleweight combat with Mustufa Hamsho. constructive, Hamsho isn't any Pryor and nowhere close to Benitez' point in skill. although, this is how he beat Benitez. He utilized great rigidity and by no skill enable up. additionally, at a hundred and forty, Pryor became right into a grown guy. on the same time as he compiled an spectacular record at a hundred and forty, and at this way of youthful age, Benitez became into nonetheless a boy. Pryor by skill of TKO in 12

I'm a huge fan of Benitez, but having seen the way that "The Hawk" took care of Alexis Arguello--as skilled a boxer as you'll ever see--I'd have to give the nod to Pryor. If Panama Lewis was mixing his special "energy drinks" in Pryor's corner it would be a blowout...

Benitez was a terrific boxer, but I'd go with Pryor on this will and tenacity. One of the greatest fights I've ever seen was Pryor vs Arguello.
