I just got a call from my credit card company MBNA. They were offering a credit monitoring plan. Of course my answer is no anyway. But it is 8:52 p.m. When I told this to the woman, she said they are allowed to call until 10 p.m. Does anyone know what specific rules/laws govern the hours telemarketers can call? I would like to call MBNA tomorrow and complain/request I not be called after 7 p.m. (Husband sleeps for early morning work hours).

This is a company I have a long standing good relationship with, so Do Not Call does not apply. Do you think they would abide by my request?

Hi there, working in a call centre for credit card environment, I can tell you that MBNA is correct. There are laws governing when you can call. 10 pm sounds correct, but I would suggest checking for your province legislation's. Large companies like that ensure they follow the guidelines set up and have proper measures in place to ensure these regulations are adhered to. Due to the new Privacy legislation that came out approximately 3 years ago, you can actually request they remove you from their list and that you do not want to receive anymore telemarketing calls. They have to abide by your request. If they continue to call you can escalate and even pursue civilly if it becomes harassing.

The FCC's rules prohibit telephone solicitation calls to your home before 8 am or after 9 pm.

They can, in fact call until 10pm. I don't think it will do any good to ask them not to call after 7. They'll do whatever they want. But you CAN tell them you don't want to recieve offers from them by phone and they have to abide by that.

Read the tiny print that comes with your statement. They periodically send out a "privacy notice" and you have to opt out of the marketing crap or they will sell your name to their "partners".

I have opted out of everything and rarely get calls. Oh, check your driver's license policy, too. I was shocked to find out my state sells all my private data unless I opt out. I don't think that should even be legal since you have to provide that info to get a license.

YOU TELL THEM S.O.B.'S THAT IF THEY CALL YOU AGAIN, YOU WILL BE CONTACTING YOUR ATTORNEY TO FILE CHARGES OF HARASSMENT. Whether you do or not, it works every time! you switch it up and tell them your Lawyer will contact them if they continue to harass you. (

Take my advice and put yourself on the DO NOT CALL list...

Its easy, you can do it online and since I did I rarely get bothered anymore.

Another idea is to unplug or turn off your phone before bedtime.
