The Koran is the holy book for followers of Islam just like how the Bible is the holy book for Christians.
Contary to beliefs, Muhamad did not write the Koran. He recited it and memorised it as it was actually revelation by relevation brought down to him by God.
It was Muhammad's family and close companions who also memorised all the revelations and decided to write it down before it was lost.
Thus the Koran is actually words of God memorised by his people who decided to jot it down.
Hope this helps.
