my son asked me this today.

i have read the bible, but i don't know the answer to this question.

my personal beliefs, be they religious or spiritual, do not enter in to this at all, as i prefer to (unbiasedly whenever possible) give my children the information i have and to let them make up their own minds.

he is 11 and i'll be letting him read the answers here, so i'd appreciate some reasonable answers!

to blonde beauty. wow. that was mighty judgemental of you. i do impose my values on my children, i just don't impose my faith. this is my personal choice and i have this right. because of this you suggest i have no backbone and that i am a bad parent?! very intelligent reasoning there.

lol actually, my son would disagree with you too. he's a well rounded, intelligent individual who is able to think for himself. and you know what? i wouldn't have it any other way! so there. hmph!

to all: i would just like to be clear on this question. it is not about faith. it is about what the bible says about jesus being descended from adam and eve and i honestly can't remember (if i ever knew).

According to the Bible, everyone is descended from Adam and Eve, including Jesus. But Jesus is descended from Adam and Eve only through his mother. According to the Bible, Jesus' father was God.

Waeyeaw is confused. According to the Bible, Noah was descended from Adam and Eve as well. Noah wasn't created. He was born like we are.

1. Jesus has a family tree, Because God said thru the prophets in the Old Testament what His family tree would be.
2. Jesus did not have an earthly father like you or me. He had our heavenly Father do a miracle in Mary's womb. That is one of the reasons we celebrate Christmas.
3. He led an earthly life with out sinning that is one of the other reasons He came to show us how to live.
4. He died a criminals death, but He was God with the Father and the Holy Spirit. His job at the cross was to take the sins of mankind, you see there was nobody in the world that could do what He did and because He was the innocent one.
5. Remember in the Garden of Eden God killed an innocent animal and covered Adam and Eve with the skins, well that is what Jesus is doing for us so that when the Father in Heaven is looking at us, He is seeing Jesus and not our sins. For the genealogy of all living things, including you, kangaroos, oak trees and Jesus, read The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins. The bible is not literally true, just the myths of a few thousand years ago, but interesting reading nonetheless.

Just looked at some of the other answers. Wouldn't Noah and his ancestors have been descendants of Adam and Eve then? See how confused people are by religion?

The Almighty creator of us all never had a beginning. He is a spirit creature. He decided to make another spirit creature and in Col 1:15 and Rev 3:14 says his first created effort was Jesus Christ. Thru him and for him all other things were created in heaven and earth. He lived in heaven with billions of other spirit creatures they created. For billions of years before ever even thinking about the earth. Then decided to created a material universe and a habitable planet. Probably took billions more years to do that. Last but not least they said, let us make man.
that was about 6000 years ago. It didn't work out so well.
So they have allowed enough time for their to be enough obedient people who would appreciate a beautiful earth.
Jesus came down from heaven and took a slaves form it says when he agreed to be in a human body. After his death he returned to his heavenly home.

Of course

Adam and Eve were the first people on earth, so even if there were other people, Adam and Eve would have to be related to them

Suspending disbelief, and for the sake of argument accepting the gospels at face value, the answer is yes. The gospels give genealogies tracing Jesus back to Adam. However, there are two points of interests here; firstly, they trace him through Joseph, when the nativity myth implies that Joseph was not his father, and even the so called synoptic gospels give completely different genealogies!
Go figure!

Not only does the genealogical lists in the Gospels cite Adam as an ancestor of Jesus, but Jesus himself claimed to be the "son of man." Adam is/was the Hebrew word for man.

If you believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, everyone is descended from Adam and Eve, since they were the first humans.

If you believe that many of the Old Testament stories -- including the one about Adam and Eve -- are not literally true, that changes things.

Christians believe that Jesus was descended from David, who was considered the most righteous of Israel's kings, and lived about 1,000 years earlier.

Other than the mythical story of Adam and Eve being the first humans, there is no reference in the Bible to Jesus' being a direct decendent of Adam and Eve.

Wait - how can you say that Noah and his familly populated the earth.

Didn't Noah and his family come from Adam and Eve? Sooooo Adam and Eve populated the earth with a little flood hiccup.

God is alot more loving in the new testament.

No.. Jesus is the son of god.. Adam and Eve were created BY god..

Another quick fact.. I notice alot of people think Adam and Eve populated the earth.. This is true up until the Flood. After the Flood, it was Noah, his sons and his sons wives that re populated the earth!
