The tensioner in my glove compartment door now drops without the smoothness it used to have. Can I fix the broken tensioner myself? What part do I need, and how do I do it?

To clarify, the door hatch works well, it's just when I open it, it drops abruptly and not smoothly as usual.

look for the string that used to let the glove box down the whole assembly is held to the dashboard with six or eight sheet metal screws. Sometimes you will need to take the right quarter trim off to get that last screw or 10 mm nut carefull examination you should be able to splice into that string or on some glove boxes there are gear and spring lowering slowers glove box assembly in hand you should see how to fix it. P.S. you do not have to carry 4 colt 45 cal. model M-1911's in your glove box all of the time, unless you want to start a war!

Might i say that mercedes has just as many fallouts as lexus does and well.......just recently lexus beat mecedes by one gear, 8 speed autmatic. Now to the question, since it is a lexus i would recommend taking it to the nearest lexus dealer to get it fixed, if you have a warrenty then it should be covered but if not it would be worth coughing up the money to get it fixed anyways
