Well, a wedding doesnt ever need to be expenisve! Spending money on the honeymoon is so much more worth it.....can you believe the average US wedding is $40,000 (No...Im not making that up)

Now, that being said...you should check some local places to hold a wedding, like a hall, a grange, a nice house which rents out for events. We have all of these things here in CT. I guarantee you could spend a max of $3-5000 on everything. Here are some tips that may or may not help:
-Find the location(do some research)
-Make a list of under 50 people
-Make the invitations and decorations or purchase fairly cheap, but nice ones....(for example, my wife bought a very nice plastic bouquet from "AC Moore" instead of paying a ton for a real one)
-Make the centerpieces(an idea is ....get vases, put water and 1 beta fish in with some kind of ornamental decoration on top and raffle them off after)
-Have the food buffet style(have certain people offer to cook very large portions or cook yourselves)
-Something I just thought of....since it's winter time, maybe when you kiss the groom you could have the justice of the peace, etc...hold mistletoe above before you kiss(I'm proud that I thought of that all by myself)
-You could also find a friend or someone reliable to DJ for the wedding and reception for a small fee to them. (typical fee for a Professional DJ for 6 hours total is over $800.) I had my friend dj for us....it worked out great!

Cheap Wedding Ideas For Winter

A Christmas theme can be very beautiful and inexpensive!!! YOu can do it very simple also. Choose how you will be married: religious or non religious, where you would like to do it. (rent a big hall and use the space for both ceremony and reception helps save on cost), decide what you want for decorations, (if you have a Michaels around look for the %40 off coupon in the paper every week or 2 and buy a big item that will be a part of the wedding at that time Joann Fabrics does the same so use both if possible ask friends for theirs), Check party stores for sales on things that you might like or need, If you have a sams club or a costco that is a good place to get plates, cups, and silverwear (if you don't want real dishes. Most people could care less about what they are eating off of weather it be paper or glass) You get huge amounts for cheap. I hope this helps you a little!!! Good luck with everything and congrats!!!!

Things I learned:
1. Use a photographer from a local college (a student of photography). They are more reasonable than a professional and the pictures are just as good and you can get them to agree to give you the proofs.
2. Get your DJ and talk them into a lower amount (we got ours because we got married in an off time for DJ's).
3. Use your church that you go to all the time...if you are getting married close to Christmas the church will already be decorated for Christmas (or if after christmas you have until about Jan 7 or 8). This will cut down on your flower bill - you can use poinsettas around the altar (these don't cost very much there will already be quite a few there and you can leave them or take them as you see fit later).
4. Use the caterer for your rehearsal dinner and your reception - they will give you a discount this way.

How small is it?? See if a local B&B would offer and afternoon reception,,,,,just coctails, and finger foods. A place like that would be all decorated for xmas, so you won't have to worry about that,,,,have the whole thing there, get the minister or justice of the peace or whoever you might need to marry you there....that would be a cozy and intimate wedding. Good Luck.

a nice idea for guest favours: buy a bunch of plain glass balls (very cheap, dollar store) and write your names on it and the date (like other wedding favours) with a gold or silver pen. hang them on a tree for decorations and guests can pick one off when they leave.

church: I didn't decorate my church at all with flowers for the wedding (and I got married in summer) I left it as is, churches are beautiful enough. save your money, flowers cost a fortune

bouquet: carry simple evergreens and baby's breath (it looks like snow in the firs)

music: I hate the organ and I wanted a quartet but cheap. I called the local university's music department and found a student quartet that only cost me $300. They played beautiful classical music that kicked a**. much better than that horrible organ and on the cheap.

buy a dress second hand or borrow.

just have one friend each to stand with you (save on attendant gifts)

we pulled together an LDS wedding in four days for under $500.00.... some of what we did... borrowed the dress from a sister-in-law borrowed table dressings (tablecloth, etc) did simple centerpieces of mints and candy (or little snowmen from the dollar store kind of stuff) bought silk flowers and made our own bouquet and bouts bought ribbon and made bows to define the aisle and filled it with silk flower petals hidden rope lighting (color to match) or twinkle lights (borrowed) use the cake as decoration instead of hiding it off in a corner balloons can be used as an arch or elevated centerpieces swag fabric (or tulle) for backgrounds borrow christmas trees we didn't do "favors" for people to take home check with your local bakery on cakes or find someone in the ward who might do them @a good price your colors sound beautiful

Have a cocktail only party. Choose a hall that is already decorated for the holidays, that way you save money on decorations.
Instead of hiring a professional photographer why not have a close friend be responsible for the pictures?

Just have family and Friends. Ask who ever is the best cook if she would do some of the cooking in Laue of a gift. See if you can use the Church's basement for reception. Ask friends to help, some people are very creative. Best Wishes
