They are both great dogs. I'm not sure why all of these people are saying such awful things about Labradoodles. I have a Labradoodle and she is soooo sweet. I had a Lab when I was a kid and she was also great. They both have a very similar temperament and personality and grow to about the same size. Most Labradoodles have poodle hair and are extremely soft. The reason to get a Labradoodle instead of a Lab is because they don't shed and are hypoallergenic. So they are great if you have allergies. If you don't have allergies then you could save quite a bit of money and adopt a Lab from a shelter. If you like the look of the Lbde then go ahead and splurge, they are really cute.
A word of warning, if you don't want strangers coming up to pet your dog then a Lbde isn't for you. They attract a lot of attention. Any time we take her to PetSmart we get stopped at least 4 or 5 times because people want to pet her and she loves it.
As far as names, we named her Peyton.

Get a Lab, they are so sweet. I have had them in my family my whole life! If you look at guide dogs or therapy dogs the #1 most popular breed is a Lab because they have the best disposition, and they are smart. There is nothing to improve upon!
For those of you who said they are not smart, you are so wrong. Labs are not as highstrung as poodles and tend to mellow out really fast in comparison. If you let them become lazy (which is EASILY avoidable) they will seem sluggish or dumb. To keep a lab sharp they need a lot of exercise, AND mental stimulation.
Furthermore in the cuteness contest, Labs win hands down. Come to think of it almost all dogs are cuter than a poodle :)
As far as the boy girl question you can go either way. A lot of people swear that the boys are more loyal but I have been around A LOT of dogs and have yet to see that, its really how you raise the puppy that will determine your relationship with it. I like girls because they don't seem to need to mark their territory as much on walks. Whatever you get make sure to get it spayed/neutered when you can because it is actually healthier for the dog. Name your dog when you get him/her so you can have a name suited for the unique personality.
GRATS ON GETTING A PUPPY-it's always so exciting!

A Labrador Retreiver is a purebred, a Labradoodle is a mutt being bred by unscrupulous people for greed & profit. If you want a Lab, go to www.akc.org & get in contact with a reputable breeder that belongs to the breed's club & screens and certifies their breeding dogs from from hip dysplasia & other genetic problems. If you want a dog has the look of something between a Poodle & Lab, check out the Curly Coated Retriever, Portugese Water Dog or Irish Water Spaniel. If you want a mutt, save a life already here & adopt from your local shelter, please.

Sadly ALL dogs shed; hypoallergetic dogs/cat/horses just mean that they shed fur less and shed dander less (dander the the allergy inducing thing). Most people allergic to dogs can get any dog (especially a low shed dog) by making sure to groom the dog regularly, vacuuming, and keeping dogs diet good. However Lab-wise i'm sure ther are a lot of curly coated mixes(hypoallergenic) but like i said it will only help the dander. I would reccomend a Bouvier if you are looking for a large breed low shedder. They are great (big but great :))! Depending on how sensitive he is it might not even bug him much at all to own a regular dog. Then again who knows. Look into hypoallergenic and you'll learn it's not a huge difference.

Get a lab, dont get a labradoodle ( also known as a designer mutt) those cost big bucks for nothing. Get yourself a nice male or female lab & enjoy!

A Labrador is a Pure bred dog, they do not come in blond. They are Black, Yellow or Chocolate. A Labradoodle is a mutt. A mutt that cost you about 800. or more. These designer breeds are an insult to reputable breeders and your pocketbook. It only encourages more and more backyard breeding and pet overpopulation. If you want a mixed breed dog (they make the best pets anyway) how about adopting one from your local shelter. They may even have and pup born of an accidental breeding between a Labrador and a Standard Poodle that won't cost you upwards of 800. or more! Do your homework! Please!

Get a lab. labradoodles are high maintenance. Females are a little calmer but male are more protective. So this depends what you want this dog for. Either one of these dogs are going to be 60 plus pounds so make sure this is somthing you can control when excited.

Labradoodles which are just Mutts, are way overpriced. Why pay hundereds of dollars when you can go to the pound and get a prefectly good dog for a low cost. I got my 13 year old dog when she was 3months old at the APA we paid 35 dollars for her pluse. You could eaisly found a yellow lab at the pound.

Both are good dogs. The LD doesn't shed and may be a little quicker. I spayed female would be the easiest to handle and train, but just a tiny bit easier.
Alway remember that these are dogs, not humans, so treat them as dogs. Since you are human, you must be the leader. All commands must be short and chrisp. Never beg. Dogs don't understand begging and may consider you a subservant being if you whine and beg.
Watch "The Dog Whisperer" on TV. The host is both excellant and entertaining.
Good Luck,

First a labradoodle is a mutt, mix breed, it just a fancy name for a simple mutt. I cant stand these new dogs that people are coming up with, they are mutts that cost more than full blooded dogs, how crazy is that, a mutt cost more than a pure breed....but either way, any dog is great, I prefer males, they are better to handle, less health problems.....good luck
