if he or she is breathing ok then relax and it will find it's way out on it's own, the Doc will tell you that it's a good idea to watch for it or if the child has any abdominal pain or intestinal pain (blockage) to watch for that too and go to Doc if that happens but otherwise, this happens all the time and usually fixes itself.

i swallowed a penny when i was younger. my mother rushed me off to the emergency room, just to find out.. absolutely nothing. as long as the child is breathing fine and everything is okay, you;re okay, it will just pass through the digestive track. but if indeed they are having trouble breathing, it could have gone down the wrong way and ended up blocking the air passage; if this is true, definetly bring them to the ER. I'm sure they'll be fine, no worries!

in -> Mouth -> Pharynx -> Esophagus -> Stomach -> Small intestine -> Large intestine -> Anus -> out Under normal circumstances, food is broken down in the mouth (teeth and saliva), the stomach (stomach acid), and then in the intestines its nutrients are absorbed until only waste is left, which is then excreted. A penny probably wouldn't break down in a person's body though, so it'd just be there for the ride. It'd get pooped out in the same basic condition it was when it went in, although I doubt anyone would want to retrieve it after that. The kid's health should be fine, too - his/her body would just treat it like any other kind of waste in it.

Either wait for it to come out the other end, or not worry at all. It should pass through just fine.

If for some reason your child has any digestive problems after a few days, then you might consider taking them to a doctor, but again, it should just pass through.

As long as it's gone down-not stuck in the windpipe or esphogus (child is having difficulty breathing or swallowing), it should pass on its own. If the child develops stomach pain, call the doctor.

The penny should come out the other end in a day or two. Check and if not bring to doc tor to ensure bowel isn't obstructed.
