I think that there are many factors that are affecting Americans, not only the Christian ones.
Judging from what I have seen even some non-believers aren't very bright as they claim to be.
I obviously know that there are many bright Americans who are Christian in the U.S.

I think you are being hypocrites because you believe that your country is full of the smartest people on earth but then claim that Christians are dumb when they belong to the one of the largest religion in the U.S.

I would like to see the studies to which you are referring to, especially to see what they use as guidelines for intelligence and how that relates to Christians. Is it possible that the people who are conducting such tests are initially biased against Christians? If that were true then would it not be easy to design a test that might correlate to their biased opinion. Science in and of itself is objective and non-biased, but the people who are conducting the science are not. It is possible that their biased nature has influenced the results to the point that it has caused them to produce inaccurate results? How is it that people have equated Atheism with reason and logic? I see no correlation of the two. From my point of view and what I believe their methods of reason and logic make no sense based on what proof is actually out there. Their sinful natures have caused them to create a believeable intellectual smokescreen that they can use to explain away God even though it makes no sense when you actually listen to it, but anyone who is halfway intelligent can even make the most illogical ideas sound logical. Look at TV and movies. They do this all the time. They put forth scenarios that sound reasonable and logical (i.e. The Davinci Code). I understand this was a work of fiction in and of itself, but let's not forget that this fiction was based on actual theories various people and groups held as plausible even when history both in the Bible and other sources tell us different.
Yes I am a Christian, but I also believe that I am half intelligent as are many Christians out there and do not buy into the notion that because I am a Christian I automatically give up my ability to use logic and reason...it is by faith through grace that we are saved and not by works so that no man may boast. My point being is that through faith God has saved me, but in no way does that mean I do not have phyisical proof of God's existence and that my belief in Him is blind, or without proof.

Nothing new in the study. The weaker you are the more readily God appeals to you by his offer of strength. This is the offer of God to all. Unfortunately, the stronger ones always think they can still go some distance without God' assistance. That is actually their dumbness. Unfortunately their is no IQ test to measure that. While God is not against being smart by earthly terms and will support any effort at being so, the book of Proverbs testifies to the excellence of wisdom above all, He does not discriminate nor favor unduly becaause of such differences. And moreoever, he admonishes the high IQ ones not to lean on their own understanding noting that God uses the base things to humble the big things; the foolish to confound the wise. It is part of His strategy. High IQ however is not a disqualification for God but it has proved a stumbling block for many. Luke and Paul could certainly could not have be persons of low IQ

This is interesting. I think it's not that people are stupid who have low IQ's but rather that people are informed or educated in the college/book sense.
If I went to a tribe in Africa and gave them an IQ test, it would be utterly ridiculous to to assume they would know answers to questions outside of their sphere of understanding. It would be like going into a university and have them hunt antelope...90% or more would fail.
I think the question shouldn't be Christians have low IQ's but religious people having low IQ's. Further, I would say most religions are based on abstract and other worldly insights/ideas. IQ tests are about the here and now and very tangible things (like math, science, writing essays, etc). Now, if the IQ test was about a bible or religious manuscript, I'm betting most religious people would score really high.
So, tests like these used on people who have no exposure to science (some discredit parts of science all together) or math or other aspects of the world we live in would, of course, fail or fall short of having a "high IQ".

Shouldn't use the word "prove" as there are equal studies to show that lower IQ people tend to be atheists. Not to mention IQ has nothing to do with what you know, it has to do with how much information you can store. Your IQ doesnt change more than 5 points from the time you are 5 years old until you are about 50. Unless you have suffered brain damage.

I only remember seeing one place sited for this study, and it had to do with tv, so consider the source. I think one of the reasons you see so many atheists trying to tell the world how smart they are is simply that bragging about their imagined IQ scores makes them feel important. Isn't that why people usually brag? Yeah, I know, its very childish, but why else would so many atheists be hanging out in the religious/spiritual section? To try to convince someone else they're intelligent, since the people that actually know them aren't buying it, or try to get us to convert them. Either way, its wasted energy as I wouldn't believe anyone with an extremely high IQ would actually be hanging around YA bragging about it, they'd be in the science section discussing scientific theories, and I have no intention of trying to convert anyone, so wasted energy and time.

There is a world-wide postive correlation between lack of belief and high IQ - the reason for this stems from the probability that a person with a certain belief will have an accurate perception of the worl, which itself correlates with high IQ scores.
An atheist is more likely to have an accurate world-view, simply because there is a chance that a religious person is more likely to use their religion as a cop-out - you see, one without religion has one less way of seeing things in some other way than what they are, eg. creationists.
Finally, this is only a statistical correlation - there is plenty of variation in each group. I know smart people - and while there are more atheists than the general population in percentage terms, there are still plenty of religious people.
Finally, the studies are on religious people - you sound arrogant when you interpret 'religious' as Christian - please don't.

I certainly believe there will be intelligent Christians. Even sincere, intelligent Christians.
But I would not suggest they represent the majority of Christians.
And certainly there will be those who are immature, perhaps young and seeking attention or an opportunity to establish their own identity by rebelling against religion. There are people who tip over grave stones for 'kicks'. And there are about as many who post against religion as there are similar people who post for religion.
But that is not a very good 'study' to determine IQ. On any given day we get all sorts here. This -is- the world-wide web ;-)

what are "these" studies? I am a non believer but I am very open minded....so I cannot say I 100% don't believe in a higher power.....but anyways I feel like the non believers with the higher IQ's are hardly ever heard from because they already know that religious debates never lead to a winner...so they just mind their own business and enjoy their higher IQ while eating their milk and cookies before bed

The studies referenced in the earlier posts illustrate a correlation between religion and IQ tests, and being statistical scientific studies it is assumed that the majority of the subjects involved would not that the intellectual capacity to understand the results.
