Stupidity isn't a necessary requirement for ignorance either.

I am afraid that it is a matter of intelligence. The problem is that it doesn't take a critical mind to obtain an advanced degree, just creativity, hard work, and a good memory.
The fact is that there have been hundreds of "gods" and dozens of religions from prehistory to today, and all those people "really believed" in their religions, and since they can't all be right therefore you're all wrong.
Without hard evidence it is foolish to base your life and morality on any one story, such as that of Jesus and the Christian or Catholic religion.
There's no reason to assume any religious experience you might've had is anything other than a hallucination or your imagination, and even then that experience doesn't prove that the one religion you grew up with is the true one. It's just an unexplained experience, not the basis for faith.

Most people you know are also Catholic but that says nothing without our having a point of reference. It simply means that you were able to attend an expensive, exclusive Catholic high school because your mommy and daddy were rich and had social advantages beyond the average American.
Research indicates that young people of the Unitarian Universalist faith score higher on SAT and ACT tests than other religious groups. That statistic compares two or more groups and makes the information meaningful. It means that tolerant folks score higher than bigots.
Statistics also reveal other interesting things. Catholic bigots are about as likely to get abortions as any other group, religious or not as are Evangelicals.
You are correct in saying that even ignorant people love the Lord and have faith.
You mistakenly equate a degree with intelligence. I know several really stupid people with academic degrees. I bet yours is in business.

Mind and heart is two different things.
The religion u believe in is different things with what science are saying.
U cannot put ur heart into ur mind and ur mind into ur heart
It doesnt requires things to have faith...but u need a heart...a very sincere heart to believe.
It doesnt requires a heart in learning process...but only a very bright, alert mind to learn things quickly.
But we are human/
We need something to make us complete
I got this one song sung by Gary Valenciano....
There's a certain phrase there...and hope it could enlightened you.....
"Now I've been looking for Someone like You,
And I'm so tired, im tired.
I've read every book, and sung every song
My mind maybe right but my heart feels wrong,
Tell me how much farther can my life go along,
Which way do the roads lead where do I belong....."
Its quite a touching phrase which i just lately come to realize that i might lacking that at some point of my life too....hope it did help u too....to realize that the real thing in this world is something that u cant see, something that you cant touch...but rather something that you can feel.....because we are human, and that what makes us complete

Truly well educated and intelligent people are not religious. Religions are based on unscientific superstitions, and they cause many of the problems in the world today, including wars wich have killed many millions of people. Hopefully, people will outgrow religious superstitions before it is too late. By the way, the Catholic Church historically has been one of the worst offenders in both areas: opposition to science, and promoting wars.

Jfaudale is correct, sociological studies show (not suggest, show) that religious belief declines with advanced educational training.
It seems to me that if the bright people you hang out with are mostly religious, then you hang out with a mostly insulated group of people.
You are right about the part about not being required to love the Lord because you are educated. After all, there are plenty of educated religious people who swear their devotion to the teachings of Yahweh, or to Mohammed, or to Krishna, or to Buddha, or to (insert your favorite deity here). Far more than there are Christians.

I'm with icarus.
Dear poster.
I want to know how in the WORLD you can not take your religion wiht a HUGE grain of salt, if you have any capability of intelligence and logic whatsoever?
Blessed virgin mary and biology?
The understanding and acceptance of astronomy, geology and biology pretty much debunks any Christian myth, sorry.
Hey malak:
IQ usually stays the same, mine went up since I was young, but usually it is age adjusted.
Do you know that 129 is very superior intelligence?
It is a shame your son will be dumbed down with myth, he had such potential.

Education tends to dispel religion, which is why the religious leaders would love to control the education system and keep people in ignorance.

Well, if a person is atheist, they usually assume anyone who believes in God is stupid. It doesn't seem logical to that person so therefore, cannot BE logical. If a person is a believer, they usually think an atheist is stupid thinking there is no higher intelligence. Neither belief nor disbelief is a prerequisite for intelligence or stupidity.

Atheists have to try to show the world they're intelligent because it's all they have, so they spend their lives trying to convince other people they have worth. Egomania and atheism very often go hand in hand. I see it here all the time, they're so desperate to convince everyone of their high intelligence, that it makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with them. I mean really, how egotistical can a person be? On another question, some of them were showing their IQ points, and they weren't even worth bragging about! But brag they do, and they do it a lot. Kinda like short man disease, but they do with with their supposed intelligence. Oh well, its sad, but like I said, its all they have, so they have to pump it up. My son had an 125 IQ in first grade, but he didn't run around bragging about it, because he didn't have that need.

It does not require low or high intellegence to believe in God. It takes faith and a suspension in your mind of the undeniable facts all around you.
