People come up with things through faith, thoughts and processes. Much like some persons not long ago who decided to write their thoughts down in a work of fiction called the bible. The bible states that each person has a soul, I prefer to call it a spirit or energy.
Logically and scientifically you cannot kill energy but you can transform it. So when the physical body dies it's energy must go somewhere.
Be it the christian belief that it goes to heaven/hell or other older religious beliefs that the body energy is transferred to some other physical part of the earth (which includes the unborn).
There are as many choices as there are religions on earth, the important thing is to respect other peoples right to think and worship differently from the Faith that you chose.
