after you towel dry your hair, put some hair gel only on the ends, then blow dry it with your hair upside down. after that, separate your hair into sections, and start to curl it. it depends on how long your hair is, but if it's at least to your shoulder, hold the curling iron to a small piece of hair for at least 20 seconds then let go. after you finished with that section, put on a little bit of hairspray then grab a hair clip and curl your hair all the way to your scalp and clip it (you hold it with your hand and go up) then repeat with the rest of your hair. don't use mousse after you're finished or else it will go flat, use hairspray and hold it really far away form your head. also, don't use conditioner so it won't be as soft, and it will have texture (frizziness) the frizz will go away after you curl it. oh, yeah, and don't brush your hair.

Try using foam, it will give body to your hair, then dry with a blow dryer. Section hair and gently twist from root to end. Spray each twist with a super hold hair spray. Wrap each twist around a curling iron. Once completed, flip hair and shake out. It really works.
Another tip? use beer!, use beer and do rollers. When it drys, it will set the curls.

Don't know if this is too obvious but a perm! FYI, the first perm does not always take well, it may take two or more times for your hair to set properly. From what I recall, this is due to hair having some protection on the follicles that is actually removed by using the chemicals in a permanent.

I have found that using old fashioned rollers on wet hair using super hold gel and letting dry overnight works for me.It's some trouble but if you want lasting curls...

I use Suave Hairspray to keep my waves. :) It works great! You can buy it at Target or Walmart, too!
