The lower the IQ, the less likely the person is to understand science. It's just easier to credit everything to some magical god than it is to understand the real reason things came to be the way they are.

If you do a search, you will see studies with findings in both directions. It totally depends on WHO is doing the study and what they WANT to find.
Some studies say that people of lower IQs are more likely to be religious because higher IQs rely more on evidence, proof and logic. Some studies also show it going the opposite direction, claiming that religious people open their minds to more than just what can be seen or proven in a test tube.
My IQ is 151, I am a Christian also and I think that we have learned over the years that when studies are conducted on any subject, there will always be strong evidence in favor of whatever the scientist wants to find.

for one thing if you assume that far and believe that then you must have a pretty low iq yourself ... i think the idea ur talking about is the same one thats been floating around for many years that is used to poke fun at Christians .... and it comes from the fact that mainstream education teaches nothing but a secular humanistic view and theories and they are pounded into your head from day 1 when you go to kindergarten until the day you get ur doctorate .... so the most highly educated people tend to have God educated right out of them ..... it doesnt mean that they have learned the truth ... it means that by repetition of the same lies over and over that they have come to accept humanistic and atheistic views as facts .... it could even be said that that degree of close-mindedness shows a lack of a few iq points depending on your point of view.

Because there is a postivie correlation between accurate understanding of the world and IQ score - someone who is religious has a certain associated probability that they will use their faith as a cop-out and thus not learn. Others don't - that is why there are still relgious people at the top.

90% of any population will be religious.
For 10% to deviate from the norm, they must demonstrate a higher IQ simply to deal with the peer pressure, not to mention various propaganda processes.
Natural selection suggests those with lower IQs are more susceptible to propaganda. Thus, they are less likely to deviate.
Ergo the 90% religious group contains a greater proportion of the low-IQ group, and thus their average IQ is lower than that of the non-religious group.

probably because they have someone telling them what to believe about everything so they dont have to think about it themselves and dont develop good problem solving skills, or it could be that people with a lower iq score tend to follow religious beliefs, but for the same reasons, chicken or the egg idea

I don't know where you found that study but it is so wrong. There are so many people with high IQ's that are religious. I think a better name for it would be Christian or people who believe in Jesus Christ.

Do you determine your worth by an IQ test? or any test?
If someone scores low on the SATs for example, it doesn't mean they lack intelligence. Perhaps, their way of thinking is different.
And as for the IQ test, did Einstein have a low IQ?

People with lower IQs are likely to go along with all KINDS of ideologies that require faith over the faculty of 'reason'.
Critical and analytical thinkers are less likely to go along with group ideologies, whether they be in the form of religion, philosophy or any other form of general, blanket belief system.
For example, members of the Aryan Nation and other extremists tend to be limited in their thinking (and formal education, usually) ... and accepting of beliefs without requiring intellectual reasons to justify them.
Added: It's debatable whether or not Einstein was an atheist or agnostic.

Your IQ is all about logic and reasoning. Religion uses neither.
Hmmph - Einstein was an atheist.
