Go back, look around, make it kinda obvious you are checking her out (in a fun way, not stalking!). Check out the eye contact again... it sounds like she is interested for sure.
There are obviously a lot of cues in a petshop to start a conversation. Look at the puppies!
If conversation goes along easy then the asking out bit will just come naturally.

yeah.....provided she's not attached. You gotta do some homework before you make your move. You gotta ask yourself, did she return your stare with a smile? What kind of smile was it? Was it a 'Yes, may I help you' stare? Or a 'I think you are cute too' stare? Some girls display an extremely obvious body language of 'Sorry, I'm attached!' look. So you've gotta go into the pet shop a couple more times to do your homework before you approach her.

Yes but do it in a very different way. A way she probably wouldnt expect. Send flowers to her job and let the little card on the inside ask her if she would like to join you for dinner and a movies when ever she has time off. Leave number too
