I have a 2007 Shelby GT500 and I am selling it to someone in California as a used car. The car was not ordered with CA emissions; however , I understand most new cars will pass the smog test without them. How can I find out if it will pass short of having the car tested? I am in Tennessee. And, as a used car, is it required to have any CA emissions equipment installed or does it only need to pass the smog test to be registered?

You are being a very nice guy. Your requirements as seller is at most to make sure the cars passes muster in your own state. You do not have to worry about CA. The buyer should be aware of any problems that may arise in that area before he buys the car.

The smog sticker is under the hood look closely does it say the car meets California Smog ULEV specs Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Standard. If like 49 state cars there is no mention of the golden state you will not mind bringing the car up to California Standards as it only takes two converters engine control and About $3500 modifications and emissions testing for compliance. Good Luck Thank Arnold for not going along with the rest of the country. To be honest Jerry Brown signed the CAFE smog laws. What the heck! Selling a new 49 state car to a California Bone Head. YOU! bought it you drive it "MAN RULE" hope it is not an automatic girls car.

Call and ask FORD corporate. They will be able to tell you. The phone number is with the papperwork you recieved with the car. The only way to know for sure. btw, i think if you bring a car in from out of state, there is a one time noncompliance fee that has to br paid for the smog, but you can still bring it in and register it.
