My dad said he's taking about 1/2 X a day, having anxiety, Dr gave him Lorazapom, but, he said it's not helping, and she doesn't want to give him anything stronger.
I had some low strength X, but, now I'm out, do you think it will become a habit if he take's it daily?

well whats worse - you're dad being addicted to xanax - or suffering from anxiety attacks?

1/2 xanax bar a day isn't much - I mean is he capable of following the prescription instructions, or does he have some problem with addictions already?

anxiety sucks - I think if it helps him, then wheres the harm..
as long as he's aware of possible side effects - including addiction.

Xanax IS addictive. he really needs to talk to his doctor, so yes he will eventually become addicted.
You said he takes 1/2 a day, but didn't mention dosage. Is it 1/2 a bar? 1/2 of a .25mg. ? or what?
Also, it depends on what other meds he's taking. There may be a reason his doctor gave him Lorazapam, rather than xanax.

Your question is only asking for an opinion. Right? In my opinion, people should try not to use any medicine unless it is absolutely necessary. If this is the case and he needs this medication, I would hope that he has carefully examined all of his options with his doctor before beginning a higher dosage.
I strongly believe that in our society we are having doctors prescribing medications far too often and too fast.

There are two types of addiction, physical and psychological. I doubt he is going to become physically addicted. However, there is good chance he could become psychologically addicted.

I have taken Xanax for many years, and it is great for anxiety. I take 5 1mg. pills a day. That's a lot! but,it smoothes out all the wrinkles. It is habit forming. You can't stop cold turkey. I can't imagine life without them. I am addicted to them, but I could slowly cut my dosage until I didn't need them anymore. I just don't want to.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
