It's just an added expense. You only need to purchase gifts for your wedding party. No one really expects to (or wants to for that matter) take home wedding favors from a reception (except maybe Martha Stewart). The best weddings are the ones that are kept simple and elegant - and where the bride and groom are just happy to be getting married and looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Keep it true to yourself and the love you share and it will be awesome.

They are not necessary but they are a nice consideration to people who have given up their time to come and be a part of your celebration. If money is an issue, you could always go with the flower seeds. Get a big can of them and get a pad of the 6x6 scrapbooking papers. Put some seeds in the middle. Fold the paper in half. Then fold in thirds. That will leave you a nice rectangle. Fold the top down about 2/3 and put a double stick "pop dot" in the center to keep it shut. Put a little dried flower or pretty little bow on the top of it. For less than $20 you could make about 150 of them.
If you want an edible idea for around $25, go to ebay and buy some of those little organza bags and put 3 or 4 hershey kisses in them. They look elegant on the reception tables and you could look at them more like a decor item rather than a freebie...
Good luck & keep a close watch on those pennies - they do add up. Pick where your money will make the most impact and go with it!

That is totally up to you. We are paying for our wedding also and I know what you are thinking. It is kind of an added expense but if it's something you want, it's ok to spend the money. If you think it's cheesy or not you, don't spend the money. I have been doing all the planning for my wedding and you can do it inexpensive you just have to try. Need any help ask!!! Mine is in less then 2 weeks and I am happy with everything that I have gotten for the day. What also helps for saving is doing it outside. Good luck with everything and I hope your day is a dream come true!!!

People like the favors to take home. You can go somewhere like Big Lots and get some nice (cheap) wine glasses and fill them with after dinner mints (you can get these in bulk and cheaply at Sams Clubs) and wrap a ribbon using your colors around the stem of the wine glass. This will be a nice favor and you only need a few per table. Also, you can get some Hershey kisses, colored plastic wrap and some ribbon and some leaves and green pipe cleaners and make Hershey kiss roses. These are also nice to decorate the tables with. they don't take long to make and are fun and inexpensive. Having favors does not have to be expensive, but there are those who like to take things home from weddings and hold onto them. (We paid for our wedding ourselves also).

Honestly, if this is an area you can cut, I would. As a guest, I almost always hate the favors, the CD's, candles, and other assorted cheapy stuff, that I wind up just throwing away as soon as I get home. If you feel favors are absolutely necessary, I would do something that can be eaten, so at least you won't feel like you've thrown your $$ away. But if you want to do without them in order to save $$, I sure would. Good luck!

It is really up to you because this is your day. To cut cost you can make the wedding favors be something that adds to the decorations and then you kill two things with one stone. For example, I went to a wedding in July and our party favors were some martigra beads that were on the table as decorations also. It was cheap and simple.

Well it's not written in stone but considering the gift you are receiving gift for your wedding and some will travel from far it's only a gesture of thank you for taking the time to come and celebrating my wedding. now how about giving something small or even if your good with the computer perhaps Cd's with all your wedding music and put a picture of yourself and your husband on the jewel case. and it's really that simple and believe me your guest will appreciate the effort and time you and fiance took to make these music Cd's and hey you never know it might just catch on.

Yes, wedding favors are necessary. If you are trying to be cost effective, buy seeds and put them in pieces of that see-through fabric (twall--I have no idea how to spell it) put a ribbon around it and make little notes saying "Thank you for sharing our day. Love, Dave & Anne

I was thinking the same thing- I was going to try to find something inexpensive, but we went to a wedding this last weekend and they didn't have favors, and i didn't feel that we were really missing anything.
