Should people have special rights because of genetic linkage?

People MAY have a genetic predisposition to becoming an alcoholic, but you can't become one without abusing alcohol for a period of time.

And being an alcoholic is still no excuse for drunk driving. When my drinking was out of control, I quit driving for several years so that nothing like that would happen. I never had a DUI because I still took SOME responsibility for my actions.

NO, you have no "special rights" because of alcoholism. Ask the family of the person who died what they think.

I hope this is a hypothetical question. But if you drive drunk and kill someone it is your fault. Genetic linkage is not an excuse.
Genetic linkage doesn't give you special rights. It means you have to practice more self-control so as not to get into that situation. And if you do drink, you have the option of not driving. Certainly the law won't hold you less responsible, and morally you are responsible for not controlling what you could, which was not to get behind the wheel of the car.

You need to put yourself in the position of the family who lost someone because you were driving drunk. You didn't take responsibility and someone lost their life, and their family lost someone important in their lives. You were responsible for it.

umm no - alcoholism is not 100% genetic. It has bio psycho social factors so yes there is a predisposition but it depends what causal factors happen in that person't life.

And - genetics - even when there is a history of this would not cause you to kill someone or drive drunk - or any of that. It just means that you can get addicted to alcohol easier than someone with no history.

This is something that you did - not your genes. - That is no excuse - I mean you mus be kidding. And in fact - lying since your butt is not rotting in jail right now - you think stuff like this is some kind of joke - a cop out? and excuse?

GET AN EDUCATION YOU MINDLESS EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING.

There is no excuse for drinking and driving.Even if genetics come into this picture that still doesn't give you an excuse to kill someone. I was JUST drunk?? What kind of statement is that?If you know you can't handle your drinking then stay OUT of your car.Would you feel the same way if someone killed a loved one of yours through drinking?Whatever punishment you get please take it and use the time to do a lot of serious thinking then get some help before you kill someone else.

If you truly mean what I think you mean, you need to talk to a priest and a lawyer. Or a priestess, or a pastor, or a shaman - and a lawyer.

As for "genetic linkage," no. We know nothing - of ourselves, of anything - until we first learn the basics of how to live from people in society. We are obligated to be careful with their lives in return. That means we must take responsibility for our actions.

No, people should not be responsible for their forefathers and mothers' mistakes. And should not benefit from the way the people from their heritage were treated it's not right. Like african americans blaming white people for their past, in which many of them were not even born at the time when inolerance and racism was at a high for darker skinned people. The same goes for the aboriginals. The earth is all of ours in my opinion, we shouldn't be partitioning this piece of land and that, and discriminiating against those who are from a different "race".

It is still your fault .. societies contexts have to set standards for the good of all ..

Another good example ... Why not "Guilty and temporarily insane" .. doesn't this make more sense .. If they need psychiatric treatment perhaps give it .. and once restored , then let them serve the sentence ..

we are all free moral agents,we make chioces. and their is always a way out.
(James 1:14-15) 14 But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death. . .

Name and address, please so I can report you to the authorities. After the investigation, you'll be sentenced. You'll probably be executed. But...you never should have killed someone. You have only yourself to blame, not your genetics!!!!
