I read and re-read your question and I don't see the correlation between smoking those last three cigarettes and the welfare of my great, great, great grandchildren. Maybe your analogy is too complex for me.
That being said, the upside of "claiming global warming is a hoax" is simply much larger profits for the large corporations. It's very expensive to meet lower emission levels. It's expensive to refine a cleaner fuel and expensive to retrofit equipment with centrifuges and catalytic converters. Much easier to just spew the crap into the air, and if the neighbors complain, just make the chimneys higher so it drifts into the next county. It'll take a lot more actual proof that is indeed our industries that are causing global warming before any major steps are taken to stem the problem.
Environmentalists and economists are always at odds - and with the possible welfare of your great, great, great grandchildren on one hand, and increased immediate profit on the other - guess who wins every time.

There is no doubt we are in a warming cycle. Is this because of fossil fuels? There have been other warm cycles throughout the history of the planet when no fossil fuels were being burned.
Fossil fuels are finite. We'd best find other alternatives.
It's doubtful that the World's peoples can agree on any one issue, therefore it's doubtful that anything will ever be done regardless of fossil fuels impact on global warming.

This is not at all like the global warming debate. The upsade to saying glabal worming does not exists is that it allows developing countries to continue to develope, reduce costs of goods and sevices (which helps the poor afford a better standard of living), and keeps first world countries from going into economic downturns (or at least temper them).
Now since the price of oil has gone up because of production limitations and politics), this more than anything has caused more rapid developement of alternative energy. Using environmental concerns to force companies to come up with alternative fuels raises the costs of those alteratives more than if it is done in the market place. And the market will more likely ensure the best alteratives win out.

I would not use them. Hold on to them for a couple weeks before they get stale and sell to highest bidder. With the money I would just buy my own tobacco & marijuana seeds to grow my own lifetime supply.
Save the lives of great, great, grandchildren?? Hemp products can be used as a fossil fuel alternative. I don't think it's about me changing the world to be a better place.
The so called "Government" needs to change their issues and agenda's for money and power to things that will help planet Earth. If they (Goverment), do not make better efforts, what is the point of anyone trying. Because of their laws and rules, we are restricted in ways to make Earth better.

If it is true, which i doubt, that second-hand smoke has an effect on people, then they would have been doomed a few cigs earlier before I got to the last three so it wouldn't matter. As in global warming, if there is anything causing it, the damage has already been done.
